India hammer West Indies by 59 runs via DL method to take an unassailable 1-0 lead
Thanks to Virat Kohli record-breaking 42nd
century, Shreyas Iyer 71 and good bowling display, the Indian Cricket Team
defeated West Indies by 59 runs via DL method in the 2nd One day
international played at Port of Spain, Trinidad on Sunday.
Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat
first. Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed off the third ball of innings with beauty
from Sheldon Cottrell. Virat Kohli came to the crease and looked positive right
from word go while on the other hand, Rohit Sharma struggled to score runs. At
the end of 10 overs, India were 55 for 1.
After the power play overs, Roston Chase dismissed Rohit
Sharma for 18. Rohit and Kohli added 74 runs for 2nd wicket. Indian
captain Virat reached his fifty off 57 balls. Coming at number 4, Rishabh Pant
scored 20 runs and was dismissed by Carlos Braithwaite. Shreyas Iyer playing
his first match after a long time looking in good touch taking singles and
hitting occasional boundaries. Kohli reached his 42nd ODI century
off 112 balls while Iyer completed his fifty off 49 balls. Trying to hit a big shot,
Virat Kohli was dismissed for a brilliant 120. Kohli and Iyer added 125 runs
for the 4th wicket.
Rain arrived when the score was 233 for 4 in the 43rd
over. After the rain break, West Indies bowlers restricted the run flow and
took wickets at regular intervals. India posted 279 for 7 in 50 overs.
Chasing down 280 runs to win, Evin Lewis looked positive
with his stroke play while Chris Gayle playing his 300th ODI match
struggled to score runs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck dismissing the dangerous
Gayle for 11. At the end of 10 overs, West Indies scored 46 for 1.
With the score 52 for 2, rain arrived, and the match was
stopped. After the rain break, West Indies were given a revised target of 270
in 46 overs. The Indian bowlers kept on picking wickets at regular intervals.
Evin Lewis reached his fifty off 66 balls. Nicolas Pooran showed his promise scoring
42 runs. He and Lewis added 56 runs for the 4th wicket. It was a procession
of wickets for the Indian team as they bowled out West Indies for 210 in 42 overs.
India won the match by 59 runs via DL method.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar was the pick of bowlers for India with 4
for 31, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets each, Khaleel and
Jadeja took 1 wicket each.
India takes a 1-0 unassailable lead in the 3 match ODI
series with the first match being washed out due to rain. The 3rd match will take place at Port of Spain, Trinidad on 14th August
2019.

runs via DL Method.
