India versus West Indies 3rd ODI: Records broken by Virat Kohli
The Indian Cricket Team produced another match-winning knock
during the 3rd One day international in a rain-curtailed match against
West Indies played at Port of Spain, Trinidad on Wednesday. It was an amazing
performance by Virat Kohli who scored back to back centuries in this 3 match ODI
series.
In the 3rd ODI match, West Indies captain Jason
Holder won the toss and decided to bat first. Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis got
the team off to a flying start as both added 115 runs in just 10.5 overs. Chris
Gayle was simply sensational scoring 72 off 41 balls with 8 fours and 5 sixes. When
the score was 158 for 2 in 22 overs rain arrived. After the rain break, the
match was curtailed to 35 overs side. West Indies scored 240 for 7 in 35 overs.
Chasing a revised target of 256 runs, India lost an early
wicket of Rohit Sharma for 10 runs. Shikhar Dhawan and Indian captain Kohli
played with positive intent putting pressure on West Indies bowlers. Dhawan was
dismissed scoring 36 off 36 balls. Rishabh Pant failed to use his chance at
number getting out for 0. Shreyas Iyer came to the crease and put the West
Indies bowlers under pressure. On the other hand, Kohli completed his fifty off
48 balls. Iyer showed his class with aggressive stroke play and reached his half-century off 33 balls. Kohli and Iyer added 120 runs for the 4th
wicket.
Virat Kohli reached his 43rd ODI century off 94
balls and remained not out on 114 off 99 balls to help Team India register a
thumping 6 wicket win with 15 balls to spare. For his superb knock, Kohli was named
the man of the match and man of the series.
During his 114 runs knock against West Indies, Kohli broke
many records which included 43rd ODI century in 239 matches (230
innings) with 11520 runs. It was his 36th century in wins for Team
India. He is one of the greatest batsmen in ODI cricket with 26th
win in chases. He becomes the first player to score 20,000 international runs
in a decade. It was his 68th international century.
Virat Kohli scored 5 half-centuries in the recently
concluded World Cup 2019. He came with a bang with 120 runs in the 2nd
ODI. He is just 6 centuries away from breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s record of
most centuries in ODI cricket.
India 256 for 4 in 32.3 overs/35 overs ( Kohli 114*, Shreyas
Iyer 65, Fabien Allen 2/40) beat West Indies 240 for 7 in 35 overs ( Chris
Gayle 72, Evin Lewis 43, Khaleel Ahmed 3/68, Mohammed Shami 2/50) by 6 wickets
