China Open 2019: List of winners
It was an amazing day on the badminton court as 4 matches
went right down the wire in the finals of the Super 1000 China Open 2019 played
at Changzhou on 22nd September.
Mixed doubles
In all Chinese affair, World number 1 Zheng Siewei and
Huang Yaqiong defeated the world number 2 pair of Wang Yilu and Huang Dongping
in three sets by 21-17, 13-21, 21-16. It was an amazing performance by World
number 1 who played with aggression and showed their dominance in the 1st
set winning it 21-17. In the 2nd set, Wang and Dongping came back strongly to win it easily 21-13 to force the match into the decider.
In the deciding game, the world number 1 made attacking
moves and put pressure on the other pair. Zheng and Huang won the 3rd
set at 21-16 to win a grand slam of Super 1000 events in 2019.
Women’s Singles
Carolina Marin returned back strongly after a career
threatening injury beating Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei in three sets by 14-21,
21-17, 21-18. The first set saw Tai Tzu Ying dominating Marin and winning the 1st
set at 21-14.
It was a closely fought game in the 2nd set with
both players fighting for each point. Marin played some lovely smashes and drop
shots to put Tai under pressure to win the 2nd set at 21-17 to force
the game into a decider. The decider proved to be an exciting encounter before
Marin held her nerves to win the 3rd game at 21-19.
Men’s Singles
Kento Momota defeated Anthony Gingting of Indonesia in three
grueling sets at 19-21, 21-17, 21-19 to win the title.
It was an amazing performance by Ginting who stretched the
World Champion Momota to three games. The 1st game was a close-fought affair as both players fought for each as Ginting held his nerves to win
1st set at 21-19.
The 2nd game saw Momota play with aggression and
put Gingting under pressure. World number 1 proved his worth to win 2nd
set at 21-17 to force the match into the decider.
In the deciding game, the match shifted from one corner to
another end. Momota was leading 11-8 at the interval. After the interval, as
things were going to Momota, Gingting leveled the score at 19-19. Momota held
his nerves to win the title.
Women’s doubles
Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan defeated Misaki Matasumo and
Takashi in two straight games by 21-14, 21-18 to win the title. It was a dominating performance by the Chinese pair who played with aggression and never
allowed the Japanese to play their natural game.
Men’s doubles
In all Indonesia finals, Marcus Gideon and Sukamuljo defeated
their counterparts Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan in three sets by 21-18,
17-21, 21-15 to win the title.
World number 1 ranked pair of Gideon and Sukamuljo
played with aggression to dominate the 2nd raked pair to win first
set easily at 21-18. In the 2nd game, Ahsan and Setiawan came back
strongly to win it easily and force the match into the decider.
In the third and final game, the World number 1 pair proved
their worth as Setiwan suffered injury and could play their game. Gideon and
Sukamuljo won the third set 21-15 to win the title.
