Korea Open 2019: Parupalli Kashyap beats Darren Liew to enter the quarterfinals
Parupalli Kashyap defeated Darren Liew of Malaysia to enter
the quarterfinals of the Super 500 Korea Open played at Incheon on Thursday.
Kashyap won the match in three sets by 21-17, 11-21, 21-12 last for 56
minutes.
Kashyap had a great start to the first game playing
aggressive badminton and not allowing the Malaysian opponent to play his
natural game. The Indian won the first game easily at 21-17. In the 2nd the game, Darren Liew came back strongly to produce a dominating display and won
the 2nd game easily at 21-11 to force the match into a decider.
In the deciding game, it was a dominating display by the
Indian who showed his class and won the game and match easily to progress into
the quarterfinals. He is the only left in the tournament after PV Sindhu, Saina
Nehwal, Sai Praneeth were crashed out in the first round.
PV Sindhu lost to Biewen Zhang of USA in three sets by 21-7,
22-24, 15-21 to be knocked out in the first round. Saina Nehwal was also
knocked out in the first round losing to Kim Ga Eun of South Korea in three
sets by 21-19, 18-21, 1-8 retired hurt.
In the men’s singles, Sai Praneeth lost to Anders Antosen of
Denmark by 9-21, 7-11 retired hurt. The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and
Sumeeth Reddy, Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty went down fighting to
their respective opponents.
He will take on Jan Jorgensen of Denmark who defeated
Anthony Ginting in three sets by 21-17, 16-21, 21-13. It promises to be an
exciting match as both players would be looking to go one step further in the
tournament.
In other results, Kento Momota moved into the quarterfinals
with a straight-set win over Kim D-h of South Korea by 21-12, 21-9. Lee Z J of
Malaysia defeated Victor Axelsen of Denmark in straight games by 21-18, 21-16.
