Korea Open: Parupalli Kashyap loses in the semi-finals
The Indian challenge ended as Parupalli Kashyap lost to
World number 1 Kento Momota in the semi-finals of Super 500 Korea Open played
at Incheon, South Korea on Saturday. Momota produced a dominating display against
Kashyap and won the match easily.
In the first game, the Indian played some lovely shots but
could match the speed of the Japanese. Kento Momota led 11-7 at the interval.
After the break, the World number 1 Momota continued his domination over
Kashyap and showed his class with a variety of strokes. The Japanese won the
first game at 21-13.
The second game saw Kashyap started off to a slow start as
Momota took advantage of the mistakes that the Indian made. At the
interval, the Japanese led 11-7. After the interval, Kashyap made a mini
recovery to take points in succession to level the scores at 12-12. The
Japanese showed his class and took 5 points in succession to take a comfortable
lead. Momota won the 2nd set easily at 21-15 to move into the
finals. It was a good performance by Parupalli Kashyap who reached his 2nd
semi-finals of 2019.
It was a disappointing outing for the Indian shuttlers at
the Super 500 Korea Open. PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal, Sai Praneeth were knocked
out in the first round. The men’s doubles pair of Manu Attri and Sumeeth Reddy,
Thailand Open winner Satwiksairaj RankiReddy and Chirag Shetty went down
fighting in the first round itself.
Parupalli Kashyap had a decent outing in the Korea Open 2019.
He defeated Lu C-h of Chinese Taipei in the first round by 21-16, 21-16. In the second round, the Indian won a three-set match against Darren Liew of Malaysia
by 21-17, 11-21, 21-12 to move into the quarterfinals.
In the quarterfinals, Kashyap beat Jan O Jorgensen in two straight
sets by 24-22, 21-8 to enter the semi-finals.
Now the next tournament would be the Dutch Open starting 8th
October 2019.
