Complete domination by Indian women’s cricket Team in the T20I series against West Indies
The Indian women’s Cricket Team have completely dominated
the West Indies team taking a 4-0 lead in the 5 match T20I series.
In a rain curtailed 4th T20I match played at
Providence Stadium, Guyana on 17th November 2019, the Indian women’s
team defeated West Indies by 5 runs. The match was reduced to 9 overs side due
to rain. West Indies captain Anisa Mohammed won the toss and decided to bowl
first.
It was a brilliant bowling effort by the West Indies bowling
line up who created pressure on the Indian team. Shafali Verma, Jemimah
Rodrigues, Harmanpreet Kaur, Veda Krishna Murthy scored single digit. Pooja
Vastrakar was the top scorer for India with 10. Indian women team posted 50 for
7 in 9 overs. For West Indies women, Hayley Mathews was the pick of bowlers
with 3 for 13 in 2 overs. Afy Fletcher and Shenta Grimmond took 2 wickets each.
In their reply, West Indies kept wickets intact early losing
2 wickets in the first six overs. The Indian spinners strangled the hosts
batting line up as run rate climbed over 8 runs per over. With 13 runs required
off last over, Shemaine Campbell was run out and Sheneta Gimmond was caught off
Anuja Patil which made life tough for them. Indian women won the match by 5
runs via DLS method.
Anuja Patil 2/8, Deepti Sharma 1/8, Radha Yadav 1/8 helped
Indian women held their nerves to win the 4th T20I. The fifth and
final T20I match will be played on 21st November.
In the 3rd T20I played at Providence Stadium,
Guyana on 14th November, Indian women’s team cruised to an easy 7
wicket win. A brilliant bowling effort by the Indian spinners helped to
restrict West Indies women to just 59 for 9. Deepti Sharma 2 for 12 and Radha
Yadav 2 for 6 created enough pressure on the hosts batting line up.
In reply, Jemimah Rodrigues 40* held the innings together
and helped Indian women win the match by 7 wickets with 20 balls to spare.
On 10th November 2019, the Indian women’s team
crushed West Indies by 10 wickets to take a 2-0 lead in the series. The match
was played at Darren Sammy National Stadium, Gros Isolet, ST Lucia.
In that match, West Indies captain Anisa Mohammed won the
toss and decided to bat first. Apart from Chedan Nation who scored 32 off 36
balls, none of West Indies batters were able to score runs with ease. Deepti
Sharma was the pick of bowlers for India with 4 for 10 in 4 overs.
Chasing 104 runs to win, Shafali Verma played with
aggressive intent and created pressure on West Indies bowling line. The
youngster remained not out on 69 off 35 balls. Smriti Mandhana remained not out
on 30 to help India win the match by 10 wickets with 57 balls to spare.
The Indian women’s team started the T20I series on a
resounding 84 run win played at Darren Sammy National Stadium, Gros Isolet, ST
Lucia on 9th November 2019. West Indies captain Anisa Mohammed won
the toss and decided to bowl first. The decision did not pay off as Shafali
Verma and Smriti Mandhana put on a record 143 runs stand for the opening
wicket.
Verma scored 73 off 49 balls and Mandhana 67 off 46 balls
laid a strong foundation for massive total. The Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur
scored a quick fire 21 off 13 balls and remained not out. Indian women team
posted 185 for 4 in 20 overs.
In reply, the West Indies women’s team could not give any
resistance and scored 101 for 9 in 20 overs. Shikha Pandey 2 for 22, Radha
Yadav 2/10, Poonam Yadav 2/24 were pick of bowlers.
The Indian women’s team defeated West Indies 2-1 in the One
day international series.
