David Warner’s 151 leads Australia domination over Pakistan on the 2nd day
The Australian batsmen especially David Warner led the hosts
in a dominating position at the end of day 2 of the first Test match played at Gabba,
Brisbane on Friday.
After bowling out Pakistan for 240 runs on the first day,
David Warner and Joe Burns started off to a positive fashion putting Pakistani
bowlers under pressure. The debutant Naseem Shah looked impressive with his speed.
Warner reached his fifty off 78 balls while Joe Burns created pressure.
Australia went into lunch break at 100 for 0.
The second session saw Joe Burns reach his fifty off 85
balls. Naseem Shah was denied his maiden Test wicket of David Warner as the
youngster overstepped and Warner continued his merry way. Australian openers
made the batting look easy to put consistent pressure on the inexperienced Pakistani
fast bowling line up. Australia went into tea break at 195 for 0 with David
Warner on 99.
Right after the tea break, Warner completed his Test century
off 180 balls. It was a good solid knock by Warner who was playing his 1st
Test match after 1-year ban. Pakistan finally got the breakthrough as Yasir
Shah dismissed Joe Burns around the legs for well made 97. Warner and Burns
added a massive 222 runs for the opening wicket.
Marcus Labuschagne came to the crease and took time to
settle. The Pakistani fast bowlers tried all things, but nothing worked. Pakistan
took the 2nd new ball after 82.2 overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi troubled
Warner but the visitors could not take any wicket. Warner reached his 150 off
257 balls while Labuschagne completed his fifty off 91 balls. Australia ended the
2nd day in a commanding position at 312 for 1 with a lead of 72
runs.
Australia 312 for 1 in 87 overs ( David Warner 151*, Joe
Burns 97, Labuschagne 55*, Yasir Shah 1/101) lead Pakistan 240 in 86.2 overs (
Asad Shafiq 76, Azhar Ali 39, Mitchell Starc 4/52, Pat Cummins 3/60) by 72 runs.
