Indian women seal the T20I series comfortable 7 wickets win over West Indies
Thanks to a brilliant bowling performance by Indian bowlers
and Jemimah Rodrigues unbeaten knock, the Indian women’s team defeated West
Indies by 7 wickets played at Providence Stadium, Guyana on Friday.
West Indies captain Anisa Mohammed won the toss and decided
to bat first. Anuja Patil got the breakthrough for the visitors as she took an
early wicket of Hayley Mathews for 5. The Indian bowlers kept a tight lid on
West Indies batting line up not allowing them to score runs easily. At the end
of six overs, West Indies were struggling at 12 for 2.
After the power play overs, the Indian women bowlers continued
to strangle the West Indies batters which made life tough. CA Nation and Henry
scored 11 runs each for the hosts. Indian women restricted West Indies to a
paltry total of 59 for 9. Radhav Yadav and Deepti Sharma took 2 wickets each,
while Harmanpreet Kaur, Poonam Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar, Anuja Patil picked 1
wicket each.
Chasing down a modest target of 60 runs to win, it was a
shaky start as Shafali Verma was dismissed off the 3rd ball of
innings. Smriti Mandhana also fell cheaply by the bowling off Hayley Mathews
for 3. At the end of six overs, Indian women were 16 for 2.
Jemimah Rodrigues kept the Indian innings intact and played
a patient knock on slow wicket. Harmanpreet Kaur scored just 7 runs off 19
balls. Rodrigues remained not out on 40* off 51 balls and helped Indian women
register a 7 wicket win with 20 balls to spare.
The Indian women registered emphatic wins in the first two
T20I matches. In the first T20I, Indian women crush West Indies by 84 runs and
won the 2nd T20I match by 10 wickets.
Indian women 60 for 3 in 16.4 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 40*,
Hayley Mathews 2/7) beat West Indies women 59 for 9 in 20 overs ( Nation 11,
Radha Yadav 2/6, Deepti Sharma 2/12) by 7 wickets.
Indian women take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5 match
T20I series. The 4th match will be played on 17th
November.
