Syed Mushtaq Ali Super League Day 3
It was another good day of cricket in the Syed Mushtaq Ali
Super League. Karnataka continued their domination winning their 3rd
successive match and qualify for the semi-finals in Group B. Mumbai defeated
Jharkhand.
In Pool A, Maharashtra stunned the table topper Baroda while
Haryana won their match against Delhi.
Group A
Maharashtra versus Baroda
Maharashtra defeated Baroda by 67 runs in the first match of
Pool A played at CB Patel International Cricket Stadium, Surat on Sunday.
Maharashtra captain Rahul Tripathi won the toss and decided
to bat first. Vijay Zol and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a flying start to innings adding
51 runs for the opening wicket in just 5.5 overs. Zol was dismissed by Arothe
for 20 off 18 balls. Gaikwad played with positive intent and showed his class
with a classy 47 off 27 balls.
Kedar Jadhav and Kazi took the attack to Baroda bowlers. The
experienced Kedar rotated the strike while Kazi made batting look easy. Kedar
and Kazi added unbeaten 87 runs for the 3rd wicket. Maharashtra posted
165 for 2.
In reply to 166 runs to win, Baroda lost wickets at regular
intervals and never looked in the game. Apart from Kedar Devdhar 27, Deepak
Hooda, Ninand Rathva and Patel double digit scores, Maharashtra bowled out
Baroda for 98 in 17.3 overs. Samad Fallah, S Bachhav, Abrar Kazi , SM Kazi took
2 wickets each. It was their first win of their tournament.
Haryana versus Delhi
Haryana posted their 2nd win of the tournament
defeating Delhi by 30 runs played at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat. Delhi
captain Dhruv Shorey won the toss and decided to field first.
It was an ideal start for Delhi as Chaitanya Bishnoi was run
out in the first over while Lalit Yadav was dismissed for 5. Shivam Chahuan and
Himanshu Rana steadied the Haryana innings putting pressure on Delhi bowling up
with aggressive hits. Rana and Chahuan added 105 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Himanshu Rana played a brilliant knock scoring 59 off 40 balls while
Chahuan made 47. Sumit Kumar, RP Sharma, Rahul Tewatia and Amit Mishra scored
quick fire cameos to help Haryana post 181 for 6 in 20 overs. Simarjeet Singh took
2 for 43, Subodh Bhati, Varun Sood and Nitish Rana took 1 wicket each.
In reply to 182 runs to win, Hiten Dalal went cheaply for 1.
Rishabh Pant opened the innings for Delhi and scored 28 off 32 balls. Apart
from Nitish Rana 37 off 25 balls, Dhruv Shorey 23 off 22 balls, Subodh Bhati 26
off 11 balls, Delhi fell short of the target by 30 runs. Delhi scored 151 for 8
in 20 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal was pick of bowlers with 3 for 27 in 3 overs,
Sumit Kumar and Harshal Patel took 2 wickets each.
Group B
Karnataka versus Punjab
Karnataka cruised to their 3rd successive win of
the tournament beating Punjab by 7 wickets played at CB Patel International
Stadium, Surat on Sunday.
Karnataka captain Manish Pandey won the toss and decided to
field first. The decision paid off as V
Koushik and Ronit More struck twice in the first six overs to leave Punjab at
18 for 2. Shubman Gill who was released to play scored just 11 runs. Punjab
were reduced to 55 for 3 at end of 8 overs.
Gurkeerat Singh and Punjab captain Mandeep Singh steadied
the Punjab innings with good aggressive stroke play. Both added 88 runs for the
4th wicket. Mann was dismissed for well made 44 off 32 balls. More
bowled with great precision and restricted the run flow in death overs. Mandeep
Singh was the top scorer with 76. Punjab posted 163 for 6 in 20 overs. Ronit
More took 4 for 27.
Chasing 164 runs to win, KL Rahul provided a flying start.
Paddikkal scored just 2 runs and added 33 runs for the opening wicket in just
2.2 overs. Rohan Kadam made the batting look easy to score a quick fire 23 off
17 balls. Manish Pandey hit the ball well and scored 33 off 29 balls. Pandey
and Rahul added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket.
KL Rahul kept the flow of runs going from other end and
remained not out on 84 off 48 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Karnataka won the
match by 7 wickets with 12 balls to spare. With this win, defending Champions
have qualified for semi-finals stage. Mayank Markande, Abishek Sharma and
Harpreet Brar took 1 wicket each.
Mumbai versus Jharkhand
Mumbai registered their first win of the tournament
defeating Jharkhand by 5 wickets at Lalabhai Contractor Stadium, Surat. Mumbai
captain Surya Kumar Yadav won the toss and decided to field first.
Kumar Deobrat and Jharkhand captain Sourabh Tiwary got the
team off to a flying start putting pressure on Mumbai bowlers. At the end of
six overs, Jharkhand openers raced to 65 for 0.
Deobrat played a gem of an innings scoring 58 off 30 balls.
He was dismissed by Shubam Ranjane. Jharkhand openers added 85 runs for opening
wicket in 8.2 overs. Mumbai bowlers made a strong comeback to pick wickets and
stem run flow. Sumit Kumar 33 off 30 balls and Anukul Roy 15 off 5 balls helped
Jharkhand post 170 for 5. Shubam Ranjane took 2 for 17, Shivam Dube, Shardul
Thakur and Dhawal Kulkarni took 1 wicket each.
Chasing 171 runs to win, Prithvi Shaw batted with lots of
confidence and took the Jharkhand bowlers all over the ground. Aditya Tare gave
good support to Shaw. Shaw completed his fifty. Anukul Roy provided the breakthrough
for Jharkhand dismissing Tare. Tare and Shaw added 82 runs for opening wicket.
Shaw played a superb innings and scored 64 off 39 balls.
With things getting tight for Mumbai, Shivam Dube came up
with 3 successive sixes off Utarkrash Singh. In attempt to hit 4th
six, Dube was caught. Surya Kumar Yadav scored 10 off 7 balls. Siddesh Lad and
Sujit Nayak completed the job for Mumbai winning the match by 5 wickets with 5
balls to spare.
Sonu Singh took 2 for 34 in 4 overs, Anukul Roy 1 for 18,
Varun Aaron 1 for 46. With this loss, Jharkhand have been knocked out of the tournament.
