Vincy Premier T10 League Match 1: Salt Pond Breakers starts the tournament with a thrilling 3 wicket win


It was an amazing start to the tournament as Salt Pond Breakers defeated Grenadines Divers by 3 wickets in the opening match of Vincy Premier T10 League played at Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, St Vincent on Friday.

Salt Pond Breakers captain Sunil Ambris won the toss and decided to field first. Wayne Harper tried to hit big shots but was not able to connect while Shem Browne scored all three runs in the first over from Delorn Johnson. Browne took the attack to Javid Harry taking him for 15 runs. Harper continued to struggle with his timing. A miscommunication ended Wayne Harper's innings. Harper and Browne added 34 runs in 2.5 overs.

Pond Breakers captain Sunil Ambris bowled a tidy 4th over giving away just 5 runs. After being smashed for 16 runs in the first over, Jeremy Layne got the wicket of Shem Browne for 24. Browne hit 24 off 14 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. Sunil Ambris dismissed Asif Hopper to stem the Divers innings. Tijorn Pope came to the crease and faced struggles to time the ball. After first three being dot balls, Sunil Ambris struck again to dismiss Pope to leave Grenadine at 51 for 4. Pond Breakers kept taking wickets at regular intervals as they bowled out Grenadine for 68 in the last over. Westrick Strough was the pick of bowlers with 3 for 8, Sunil Ambris and Downall Hector took 2 wickets each.

Chasing 69 runs to win, Rickford Walker and Sunil Ambris started cautiously putting on 17 runs. Asif Hopper got the breakthrough dismissing Walker for 7. Geryon Wyllie broke the backbone of Pond Breakers innings as he took 4 for 10 in 2 overs which left Pond Breakers at 45 for 6.  Urnel Thomas came to the crease and tried to put pressure back on Grenadine bowlers. With 21 runs needed to win off 13 balls, Thomas hit a six to bring the equation to 15 off 12 balls. Kadir Nedd cracked 2 successive boundaries which made the equation easy in favor of Pond Breakers. With 3 runs required off 7 balls, the left-handed Obed McCoy got rid off Urnel Thomas for 20. Thomas and Nedd added 22 runs for 7th wicket. Kadir Nedd smashed a boundary to help Pond Breakers win the match by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare.

Salt Pond Breakers 71 for 7 in 9.2 overs ( Urnel Thomas 20, Kadir Nedd 15*, Geron Wyllie 4/10) beat Grenadines Divers 68 all out in 10 overs ( Shem Browne 24, Romano Pierre 14, Westrick Strough 3/7, Downell Hector 2/4, Sunil Ambris 2/8) by 3 wickets.
