Vincy Premier T10 League Match 2: Maloney leads Hikers to a dominating 9 wicket win
In the 2nd match of the day, La Soufriere Hikers
produced a dominating display defeating Botanic Gardens Rangers by 9 wickets played
at Arnos Vale Sporting Complex, St Vincent on Friday.
La Soufriere Hikers captain Desron Maloney won the toss and
decided to field first. It was an ideal start for Hikers' side as Othniel Lewis
did not give any run in the first over. Lewis got the breakthrough dismissing
Atticus Browne for 8. Jeremy Haywood got wickets of Hyron Shallow and Romel
Currency in quick succession. A combination run out by Dillion Douglas and Dean
Browne ended Kevin Abhram innings to leave Botanic Gardens side in tatters at
35 for 4.
Kesrick Williams smashed a superb six off Haywood’s bowling
in the 9th over. In the same over, Haywood dismissed Dember. Williams and Dember added 19 runs for the 5th
wicket. Oziko Williams hit a lovely six
in the final over. Gardens captain Williams remained not out on 15. Botanic
Gardens posted a competitive total of 70 for 5. For Hikers, Jeremy Haywood was
the pick of bowlers with 3 for 12 in 2 overs.
Chasing the target of 71 runs, Hikers captain Desron Maloney
and Salvan Browne got the team off to a flying start putting pressure on
Gardens bowlers right from the word go. Maloney was severe with his
power-hitting smashing him for 15 runs. Ray Charles finally got the
breakthrough dismissing Browne for 22. Salvan Browne and Maloney added 58 runs
in just 5 overs. Maloney hit the winning runs as he remained not out on 41 off
20 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes. Dillion Douglas did not face any deliveries.
Hikers won the match by 9 wickets with 25 balls to spare.
