England versus WI 2nd Test 4th Day: Stuart Broad and Woakes spell gives England a chance
Despite half-centuries by Brooks, Braithwaite, and Chase, it
was an amazing spell of bowling by Broad and Woakes to give the hosts a chance
on the 4th day of the 2nd Test match played at Old
Trafford, Manchester on Sunday.
The 4th morning saw sunny skies as West Indies
resumed the day on 32 for 1. It was a frustrating thing for the hosts as
Alazzari Joseph was dropped by Ben Stokes at second slips and the edges did not
go to hands. On the other hand, Kraigg Braithwaite was solid as ever. The
nightwatchmen also survived a run-out chance.
Kraigg Brathwaite played according to the merit of the ball.
After the initial spell by Woakes and Broad, Sam Curran was bought into the
attack, but Joseph looked decent enough. Dom Bess immediately struck to get rid
of Joseph with a good catch by Pope at short leg. Joseph and Braithwaite added
54 runs for the 2nd wicket. Bess almost produced a beauty to dismiss
Shai Hope which missed the stump.
Dom Bess troubled the West Indies batsmen with variable

remained solid. The visitors went into the lunch break at 118 for 2. Chris
Woakes and Dom Bess were the best bowlers for England in the first session.
The second session saw Sam Curran get rid of Shai Hope
edging straight to Jos Buttler. Hope and Braithwaite added 53 runs for the 3rd
wicket. In the next over, Braithwaite survived a close LBW shout. The umpire
gave it not out and the decision was upheld as it was umpires call. He then
reached his fifty off 121 balls.
Shamrah Brooks looked confident with his stroke play along
with luck. Ben Stokes persisted with the short balls. Braithwaite timed the
ball and kept on hitting the bad balls away for boundaries. Stokes finally got
the results as he dismissed Braithwaite with a return catch due to short ball
tactics. Braithwaite and Brooks added 76 runs for the 4th wicket.
Brooks looked composed with his stroke play and completed
his fifty off 96 balls. Broad and Stokes persisted with short ball tactics.

Roston Chase and Brooks began the third session with
solidity. Root took the 2nd new ball immediately. Stuart Broad
struck gold as he dismissed Brooks plumb. Brooks and Chase added 43 runs for
the 5th wicket. The experienced Broad produced a beauty to dismiss
Blackwood giving England hopes. He then got rid of Dowrich with another great
ball. The umpire gave it out and Dowrich decided to review the decision, it was
upheld.
Chris Woakes dismissed West Indies captain Jason Holder with
a catch by Root at slips. Roston Chase and Roach frustrated the England bowlers
ensuring West Indies save the follow to complete his fifty off 83 balls. Woakes
produced another good delivery to get rid of Chase. The umpire gave it not out
and England decided to review, the decision was overturned due to the ball hitting
the leg stump. Woakes got rid of Gabriel to bowl out West Indies for 287.

Ben Stokes could not time the ball while Joe Root took singles. England ended
the 4th day on 37 for 2 with a lead of 219 runs. Stokes and Root have
added so far 20 runs for the 3rd wicket.
