England versus WI 3rd Test 4th Day: Rain washes out the entire day
The England chances of winning the Wisden Trophy has been
dealt a major blow as the 4th day’s play of the 3rd Test
match played at Old Trafford, Manchester was washed out with a ball being
bowled on Monday.
There was persistent rain from the morning itself and after
the tea break, the umpires called off the play. With 98 overs to be bowled on
the final day, England requires 8 wickets to win back the Wisdom Trophy. West
Indies ended the 3rd day on 10 for 2.
After being asked to bat first by West Indies, England
looked in trouble at 122 for 4 but Buttler and Pope played with intent helping
the hosts end day 1 on 258 for 4. The West Indies bowlers made a strong comeback
on the 2nd morning picking four quick wickets putting hosts under the pressure at 280 for 8.
Stuart Broad counterattacking knock of 62 from 45 balls and
partnership of 76 runs for the 9th wicket with Dom Bess helped
England post 369. After being left in the first Test at Southampton, Broad wrecked
West Indies batting line up to pick 6 for 31 to bowl the visitors out for 197.
Thanks to a solid 114 runs stand for the opening between
Sibley and Burns, England laid a strong foundation as they declared their
innings on 226 for 2. England captain Root came into the form with a quickfire
68 off 56 balls.
Stuart Broad was superb with the new ball in the 2nd
innings dismissing John Campbell and night-watchman Kemar Roach. It looks like an
impossible task for the visitors.
The West Indies batsmen need to show steal of nerves to save
the Test match. England requires 8 wickets to win the Wisden Trophy. It promises
to be an exciting final day and hope to see a tough fight.
