CPL Match 10: Bowlers led St Lucia Zouks to their 3rd successive win
Thanks to a good bowling performance, St Lucia Zouks
registered their 3rd successive win of the tournament defeating
Guyana Amazon Warriors played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy on Sunday.
Zouks captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided to bat
first. Kimani Melius and Fletcher began steadily before the veteran Imran Tahir
got wickets of Melius and Deyal. Roston Chase played with positive intent
putting pressure on Warriors bowlers. Fletcher was dismissed by Chris Green
meaning at the end of six overs, Zouks scored 41 for 3.
Smith struck soon after the first six overs getting rid of
Najibullah Zadran to leave Zouks in trouble at 42 for 4. The experienced Mohammad
Nabi and Roston Chase rescued the innings with positive hitting and keeping the
scoreboard ticking. Imran Tahir got the breakthrough for Warriors dismissing
Nabi. Nabi and Chase added 57 runs for the 5th wicket.
Roston Chase remained solid at one end while Javelle Green
playing his first match of CPL showed his class with his hitting. Chase
completed his 2nd half-century off 40 balls and made sure that Zouks
recover from a tricky situation. Green and Chase put on 43 runs for the 6th
wicket before both batsmen were dismissed in the last over. Zouks posted 144
for 7 at the end of 20 overs.
Chasing 145 runs to win, it was a disastrous start for Warriors
side. Brandon King was dismissed by Kugglein, Shimron Hetymer trying to hit a
big shot caught by Deyal. The experienced Ross Taylor struggled with his timing
and was dismissed by Nabi to be in big trouble at 7 for 3. At the end of six
overs, Amazon Warriors scored 19 for 3.
Nicolas Pooran looked in great touch right from the word go
putting pressure on Zouks bowlers. On the other hand, Hemraj struggled with his
timing. Hemraj and Pooran added 53 runs for the 4th wicket.
Keemo Paul showed his class with the bat along with Pooran keeping
the Guyana Amazon Warriors side alive of winning. Pooran completed his fifty
off 32 balls. Kugglein provided a much-needed breakthrough for Zouks dismissing
Paul. Paul and Pooran added 56 runs for the 6th wicket. Soon after
Pooran got out to leave Warriors side a tough ask. Zouks held their nerves to
register a 10-run win.
For his 66 off 51 balls, Roston Chase was named the man of
the match award. The teams now move to Port of Spain, Trinidad.
St Lucia Zouks 144 for 7 in 20 overs (Roston Chase 66, Nabi
27, Imran Tahir 3/22, OF Smith 2/33) beat Guyana Amazon Warriors 134 for 8 in
20 overs ( Nicolas Pooran 68, Kugglein 3/24, Kesrick Williams 2/32) by 10 runs.
