CPL Match 11: Evin Lewis brilliance ensures St Kitts their first win of the tournament

Thanks to a superb knock by Evin Lewis and a cameo by Ben Dunk, St Kitts, and Nevis Patriots registered their first win of CPL 2020 defeating Barbados Tridents by six wickets played at Queens Park Oval, Trinidad on Tuesday.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Rayad Emrit won the toss and decided to field first. Johnson Charles played with positive intent while Shai Hope struggled initially. After the 2 over spell by Tanvir and Joseph, Rayad Emrit bought himself on in the 5th over. Rashid Khan was introduced before the power play overs. At the end of six overs, Tridents' openers scored 39 for 0.

Shai Hope survived a stumping chance as he bought his bat in time. Jaggesar struck for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots dismissing Charles for a run ball 24. Tridents openers added 50 runs. Jaggesar struck again by getting the wicket of Shai Hope. Kyle Mayers looked good with his batting while Jason Holder promoted himself up the order. Sohail Tanvir got wickets of Mayer and then produced a brilliant run out to dismiss Jason Holder to leave Tridents in big trouble at 79 for 4.

Ashely Nurse and Corey Anderson joined giving some impetus to their innings with big-hitting putting pressure on St Kitts bowling. Both batsmen took 21 runs off Sohail Tanvir in 17th over.  Alazzari Joseph got the breakthrough dismissing Ashely Nurse for a quickfire 25 off 17 balls. Nurse and Anderson added 56 runs off 29 balls. Rashid Khan was promoted but could not do any damage.

Kitts captain Rayad Emrit bowled a brilliant 19th over and took the wicket of dangerous Corey Anderson. It was a superb over by I Khan as Tridents posted 151 for 7 in 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 152 runs to win, Evin Lewis and Chris Lynn began off to a steady start putting pressure on Tridents bowlers. Rashid Khan struck immediately getting the wicket of Lynn with a googly. In the next over, Holder dismissed Joshua Da Silva to leave Patriots at 41 for 2 and remained at the same score.

Evin Lewis took the attack to Tridents bowlers while Denesh Ramdin struggled with timing. Lewis smashed 3 sixes in an over off Hayden Walsh Junior and completed his fifty off 28 balls. Kyle Mayers got the big wicket of Ramdin in the 17th over giving away just 5 runs. Ramdin and Lewis put on 78 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Ben Dunk struggled to time the ball initially. With 22 runs required off last 2 overs, Mayer dismissed the well-set Lewis for 89. Dunk produced two magical sixes in 20th over to give Patriots a six-wicket win with 3 balls to spare.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 152 for 4 in 19.3 overs ( Evin Lewis 89, Dunk 22*, Kyle Mayers 2/14) beat Barbados Tridents 151 for 7 in 20 overs ( Corey Anderson 31, Shai Hope 29, Jaggesar 2/17) by 6 wickets.
