Thanks to all-round performance, St Lucia Zouks proved too
strong for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots winning the match by six wickets in the
15th match of the tournament played at Queens Park Oval, Port of
Spain, Trinidad on Thursday.
St Lucia Zouks captain Darren Sammy won the toss and decided
to field first. The decision paid off as Mohammad Nabi struck twice in the
first over getting the wickets of Chris Lynn and Nick Kelly. Denesh Ramdin hit
a six before Nabi dismissed experienced West Indies wicketkeeper and then Evin
Lewis to leave St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in tatters at 11 for 4.
Ben Dunk and Jahmar Hamilton tried to rescue the innings. At
the end of six overs, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots scored 22 for 4. Zahir Khan
of Afghanistan broke the partnership by getting the wicket of Jahmar Hamilton.
Hamilton and Dunk put on 27 runs for the 5th wicket.
The explosive left-handed batsman from Australia Dunk tried
to play with positive intent but Zouks bowlers did not allow him to score runs
freely. The matter went worst for St Kitts and Nevis Patriots as the well-set
Dunk was dismissed by Rakheem Cornwall. The experienced Mohammad Nabi picked
his 5th wicket getting rid of Sohail Tanvir to leave St Kitts and
Patriots in more trouble at 70 for 7. Alazzari Joseph quickfire 21 off 13
unbeaten helped them to post a respectable 110 for 9 in 20 overs.
Chasing 111 runs to win, Rakheem Cornwall smashed 20 runs
off the first over from Sohail Tanvir to put the pressure on Kitts bowlers. On
the other hand, Fletcher gave good support to him. Khan struck for St Kitts by
getting the dangerous Cornwall for a valuable 26 off 11 balls with 2 fours and
3 sixes. With the scoreboard reading 30 for 1 in 2.5 overs, rain arrived.
After the rain break, Imran Khan struck to dismiss Mark
Deyal off the first ball. Roston Chase impressed with his stroke play and put
the St Kitts bowlers under pressure. Khan got his 3rd wicket of the
innings dismissing Andre Fletcher. Najibullah Zadran came to the crease and
played with intent.
Zadran made the batting look easy and scored a quickfire 33
off 23 balls. Trying to hit another big shot, Zadran was caught by Joseph.
Zadran and Chase put on 47 runs for the 4th wicket. Roston Chase hit
the winning runs to help St Lucia Zouks register a comfortable six-wicket win
with 32 balls to spare.
