CPL Match 19: ST Lucia Zouks beat Barbados Tridents in low scoring thriller
Thanks to a superb bowling effort, St Lucia Zouks defeated
Barbados Tridents in a low scoring thriller played at Queens Park Oval, Port of
Spain, Trinidad on Sunday.
Tridents captain Jason Holder won the toss and decided to
field first. It was an ideal start as Bishop got the breakthrough dismissing
Rakheem Cornwall. Jason Holder got the 2nd wicket getting rid of
Andre Fletcher to leave Zouks in trouble at 12 for 2. Roston Chase and Leniko
Boucher steadied the innings. At the end of six overs, Zouks remained steady at
35 for 2.
Hayden Walsh Junior did the job for Tridents by picking the
wicket of Boucher. Boucher and Chase added 30 runs for the 3rd
wicket. Tridents spinners wreaked havoc by getting wickets at regular intervals
and not allowing them to score runs freely. It was a superb bowling effort by
Tridents to bowl out Zouks for 92 in 18 overs.
Chasing a modest total of 93 runs to win, Shai Hope and
Johnson Charles began off to a steady start with good stroke play. Kesrick
Williams produced the breakthrough getting Shai Hope who struggled a lot.
Tridents openers put on 32 runs. At the end of six overs, Tridents looked in
comfortable position at 34 for 1.
The left-arm spinner Zahir Khan dismissed dangerous Kyle
Mayers. Zouks bowlers kept a tight line and length not allowing the Tridents
batsmen score runs easily. With wickets falling at the other end, Charles remained
steady to keep them in the hunt. Corey Anderson struggled for timing the ball. Glen
struck a big blow getting rid of Charles to put Tridents bowlers under pressure.
Roston Chase trusted with the final over got the wicket of
Ashely Nurse to keep Zouks hopes alive. It was a remarkable win for Zouks as
they defended 92 runs to seal the match by 3 runs.
For his superb spell of 2 for 11 in 3 overs, Glenn was
awarded the man of the match award. It was the lowest total defended in CPL
history.
