CPL Match 7: All-round Nabi leads St Lucia Zouks to a 10 run over ST Kitts and Nevis

 

Thanks to an all-round performance by Mohammad Nabi, St Lucia Zouks registered their 2nd win of the tournament defeating St Kitts and Nevis Patriots by 10 runs played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Trinidad on Saturday.

 

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots captain Rayad Emrit won the toss and decided to field first. ST Lucia suffered an injury blow as Rakheem Cornwall decided to retire hurt. Andre Fletcher and young talent Deyal put the pressure back on the Patriots bowlers. Deyal played with positive intent to keep the scoreboard ticking. At the end of first six overs, Zouks raced to 64 for 0.

After the power play overs, Patriots captain Rayad Emrit got the breakthrough dismissing dangerous Dayal for 30 off 17 balls with a catch at mid-off from Ish Sodhi. Sodhi took the catch on the second grab. Dayal and Fletcher added 73 runs in 7.1 overs. Andre Fletcher survived a run-out and dropped chance at point by Sohail Tanvir. St Kitts and Nevis Patriot bowlers made a strong comeback by dismissing Fletcher, Roston Chase, Najibullah Zadran, Darren Sammy. Rakheem Cornwall returned to play and was run out by Emrit.

Mohammad Nabi smashed 2 sixes of Sohail Tanvir’s bowling in the 19th over. The experienced Afghan player put the pressure on Sheldon Cottrell 16 runs to remain not out on 35 off 22 balls. St Lucia Zouks ended with a strong total of 172 for 5 in 20 overs. Nabi and Saad Bin Safar added 35 runs in just 2.5 overs out of which Zafar contributed 1 run.

Chasing 173 runs to win, Chris Lynn and Evin Lewis began off to a quick start. Nabi struck for St Lucia Zouks by dismissing dangerous Lynn with a one-handed catch by Najibullah Zadran. Kitts and Nevis Patriots openers added 28 runs. Roston Chase was bought into the attack and got the wicket of Joshua Da Silva.

At the end of six overs, Nevis and Patriots posted 52 for 2. Chase struck again to dismiss dangerous Evin Lewis. Denesh Ramdin proved some spark to Nevis innings but the asking run rate was too much. Kugglein dismissed Kieron Powell, Ramdin, Sohail Tanvir, and Rayad Emrit.

Sheldon Cottrell provided some entertainment with big blows but fell short of the target. Lucia Zouks won the match by 10 runs.

For his 35* off 22 balls and 1 for 19, Nabi was awarded the man of the match award. This was Zouks' second successive win of the tournament.

St Lucia Zouks 172 for 6 in 20 overs ( Andre Fletcher 46, Nabi 35*, Jaggesar 2/29, Sohail Tanvir 2/41) beat St Kitts and Nevis Patriots 162 for 8 in 20 overs ( Ramdin 46, Lewis 29, Kugglein 4/33, Chase 3/12) by 10 runs.
