CPL Match 9: All-round Knight Riders beat Tridents by 19 runs to register 3rd win
Trinbago Knight Riders produced another great display as
they defeated Barbados Tridents by 19 runs to register their 3rd
successive win in the 9th match of CPL played at Brian Lara Cricket Academy,
Trinidad on Sunday.
After a rain delay, Tridents captain Jason Holder won the
toss and decided to field first. Knight Rider's openers Lendl Simmons faced most
of the balls. Sunil Narine survived a run-out chance as Jason Holder could not
collect a superb throw by Mitchell Santer. Jason Holder provided the
breakthrough dismissing Simmons for run-ball 21. Simmons and Narine put on 22
runs in 4.4 overs.
Colin Munro smashed Mayers for 18 runs in the 6th
over to help Knight Riders post 45 for 1. Tridents fielding was not up to the
mark as Shai Hope dropped a chance of Sunil Narine. Raymon Reifer dismissed
Sunil Narine with quick delivery. Narine made 8 off 16 balls. Munro and Narine
added 41 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Munro played brilliant innovative strokes on a tough batting
pitch. He completed his fifty off 29 balls and was dismissed soon after with
good catch at the boundary by Rashid Khan. TKR captain Kieron Pollard came to
the crease and put the Tridents bowlers under immense pressure right from word
go with his power-hitting.
It was an amazing batting display by both Darren Bravo and
Pollard who smashed 77 runs in the last 5 overs to help Trinbago Knight Riders
post a massive total of 185 for 3. Bravo completed his fifty with a six off the
last ball. Bravo and Pollard put on 98 runs for the 5th wicket.
Chasing 186 runs to win, Johnson Charles was off to a flying
start right from word go and put the pressure on Knight Riders bowlers. On the other
hand, Shai Hope gave the strike to Charles. At the end of six overs, Tridents
59 for 0.
Charles took off and completed his fifty off 30 balls. Fawad
Ahmed got the breakthrough for Knight Riders dismissed dangerous Charles for
52. Charles and Hope added 68 runs for opening wicket. Shai Hope struggled with
his timing. With wickets falling at the other end, it was a tall ask for
Tridents.
Tridents captain Jason Holder and Ashely hit some lusty
blows putting on 45 runs for the 6th wicket. With 35 runs required
off the final over, Seales gave away 14 runs before dismissing Nurse. Knight
Riders won the match by 19 runs to register their 3rd successive win
of the tournament.
For his 50 off 30 balls, Colin Munro was awarded the man of
the match award.
Trinbago Knight Riders 185 for 3 in 20 overs ( Darren Bravo
54*, Colin Munro 50, Ashely Nurse 1/20) beat Barbados Tridents 166 for 6 in 20
overs ( Johnson Charles 52, Holder 34*, Sunil Narine 1/17) by 19 runs.
