This Day That Year: Jaipur Pink Panthers won the inaugural Pro Kabaddi League
The Pro Kabaddi League was launched in 2014 with the format
being based on the Indian Premier League. These teams were divided into 8
cities namely Jaipur, Bangalore, Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Patna, Pune, Bengal.
The tournament began from 26th July till 31st
August 2014. Jaipur Pink Panther had an outstanding league stage finishing top
of the points with 10 wins and only 3 losses. Jaipur started the tournament
with a loss against U Mumba by 31-45.
On 31st July, Pink Panthers crushed Telugu Titans
by 46-32 to register their first win of the tournament. They then defeated Dabang
Delhi with a comfortable margin of 40-31.
Their winning run continued as they defeated Bengal Warriors
by 39-23. They cruised to a commanding 50-23 win over Puneri Paltan. It was a
close-fought match as they defeated Bengal Warriors in their 2nd
meeting by 41-33.
Their second loss in the tournament came against Patna
Pirates by 30-52. Jaipur Pink Panthers defeated Bengaluru Bulls in a close
contest by 36-31. Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumba were involved 31-31 draw.
They defeated Dabang Delhi by 41-31 in their 2nd
meeting and then beat Puneri Paltans by 33-27. In their final match, Jaipur
registered a close 30-29 win over Bengaluru Bulls to finish at the top of the points table.
For every win, a team gets five points, 3 points for a drawn
game, and 1 point for losing a game by seven or fewer points.
In the semi-finals 1, Jaipur Pink Panthers produced a
dominating display by defeating Patna Pirates by 38-18 to qualify for the grand
finale. They faced a strong U Mumba side in the finals of the Pro Kabaddi League
season played on 31st August 2014.
Jaipur Pink Panthers held their nerves to win the inaugural edition
of the Pro Kabaddi League season 1 defeating U Mumba by 35-24.
It was an amazing journey for Jaipur Pink Panthers as they
dominated the whole season. Manider Singh became the top raider with 130
points. Rohit Rana was the top defender by registering 38 points. The team is
owned by Abishek Bachchan.
