This Day That Year: Jasprit Bumrah wreaks havoc against West Indies

Jasprit Bumrah was at his best as he became the third Indian bowler to pick-up a hattrick in Test matches. He achieved this feat during the 2nd day of the 2nd Test match played at Sabina Park, Jamaica on 31st August 2019.

Starting on the overnight score of 264 for 5, Hanuma Vihari scored a superb 111 and put on an important partnership with Ishant Sharma to frustrate the West Indies bowling line-up. Vihari’s 111, Ishant Sharma 57 ensured that India posted 416 runs in the first innings.

It was a great start for the Indian team while bowling as Bumrah got the breakthrough dismissing John Campbell. Bumrah produced a beauty to get rid of Darren Bravo, Brooks with an inswinging delivery that hit the pads. He then stunned Roston Chase with a stunning delivery. The umpire gave not out as Kohli decided to review the decision, the decision was overturned. Bumrah registered a memorable hattrick.

It was an amazing bowling effort by Bumrah who wreaked havoc among the West Indies batsmen. He finished with figures of 6 for 27 against West Indies. In the 2nd innings, Bumrah took 1 for 31. India registered an emphatic 257 runs win to help Virat Kohli whitewash the hosts by 2-0.

Bumrah is an integral part of the Indian test bowling line-up. He made his Test debut for India during the first Test match against South Africa on 5th January 2018. Since his debut, Bumrah has taken 5 wicket hauls in Australia, South Africa, England, and West Indies.
