This Day That Year: Sri Lankan and Australian legend retire

It was another tearful day for cricketing fans as Sri Lankan and Australian legend played their last Test match on 20th August.

The stylish left-handed batsman Kumar Sangakkara played its last Test match against India played at P Sara Stadium, Colombo on 20th August 2015. Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. KL Rahul 108, Kohli 78, Rohit 79, Saha 56 helped the visitors post 393 runs in the first innings.

Kumar Sangakkara came at the crease after the dismissal of Dimuth Karunaratne for 1. Sangakkara looked composed with his stroke play and timed the ball. Ashwin bowled a beauty of delivery to dismiss Sangakkara for 32. Chasing 413 runs in the 2nd innings, Sangakkara played with intent and hit an 18 ball 18. Ashwin dismissed him again to end one of the Sri Lankan legend test careers. The Indian team won the match by a massive 279 runs margin.

It was a remarkable journey for the stylish left-handed batsman from Sri Lanka. He played a total of 134 matches ( 233 innings) and scored 12400 runs with an amazing average of 57.40. During his long Test career, he hit 38 centuries and 52 half-centuries. Sangakkara had career-best Test score of 319.

Along with a stylish batsman, Sangakkara also kept wickets for Sri Lanka with 182 catches and 20 stumpings in Test matches showing his credentials. After settling in, he had the ability to cash in and help the Sri Lankan side win matches with classy batting.

Apart from Sangakkara, Australian middle-order batsman Michael Clarke also announced its retirement from Test cricket in the 5th Ashes Test match against England played at Kennington Oval, London on 20th August 2015.

After being invited to bat by Cook, Australian openers Chris Rogers and Warner provided a brilliant start putting on 110 runs. Australian captain Clarke coming at number 4, was dismissed cheaply for 15 runs by Stokes. Australia posted 481 runs in the first innings.

The Australian team won the match by an innings and 46 runs to lose the Ashes 2-3.  This was a great end to a fine career.

After making his Test debut for Australia on 6th October 2004 against India, he played a total of 115 matches (198 innings) and scored 8643 runs with an average of 49.10. Clarke his Test career with 28 centuries and 27 half-centuries with a career-best of 329* against India at Sydney.

 Thanks to a brilliant spell by Curtis Campher, Ireland registered an emphatic win over the Netherlands in the opening match of Group A played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday. Netherlands captain Peter Seelar won the toss and decided to bat first. India versus England 4th Test 2nd Day: Match hangs in the balance

 The second day saw some great action from both teams as the match hangs in the balance played at Kennington Oval, London on Friday. It was an ideal start for India as Umesh Yadav grabbed the wicket of nightwatchman Craig Overton with a sharp catch by Virat Kohli. Yadav struck again to dismiss Malan with another good catch by Rohit Sharma to leave England in big trouble at 62 for 5. Ollie Pope survived few anxious moments against Bumrah and Yadav. After the initial spell by both Indian bowlers, Bairstow and Pope took the advantage of poor bowling by Siraj and Thakur.
