Amelia Kerr all-round performance leads New Zealand to a consolation win
Thanks to the all-round effort, New Zealand women registered a
consolation win in the 3rd and final T20I match played at Allan
Border Field, Brisbane on Wednesday.
New Zealand captain Sophie Devine won the toss and decided
to field first. Beth Mooney looked in decent touch with positive strokes
putting some pressure on White Ferns bowlers. Sophie Devine produced a beauty
to dismiss Beth Mooney. Amy Satterthwaite dropped an easy chance to dismiss Meg
Lanning at slips.
At the end of the first six overs, Australian women made 42 for
1. Tahuhu coming into the second spell dismissed Healy who cut the ball
straight to Perkins at backward point. Amelia Kerr immediately struck to get
rid of Racheal Haynes giving a simple catch to Satterthwaite at midwicket to
leave Australian women in trouble at 46 for 3.
Ashleigh Gardner looked in fine touch putting pressure on
White Ferns with attacking strokes. Australia lost their 4th wicket
as Meg Lanning hit a full toss giving an easy catch to Huddleston at mid-on.
Gardner made the batting look easy and kept on hitting boundaries. Jensen made
an important breakthrough getting rid of Gardner coming down the track and
stumped by Martin. There were no partnerships between any Australian pair. Maddy
Green took a simple return catch to dismiss Molineux.
It was a disciplined bowling effort by New Zealand women as
they restricted Australian women to 123 for 7 in 20 overs. Amelia Kerr and
Tahuhu took 2 wickets each while Green, Devine, and Jensen took 1 wicket each.
Chasing 124 runs to win, Maddy Green and Sophie Devine
struggled initially before both openers took some risks hitting big shots.
Kimmince struck for Australian women as she dismissed Green trying to hit a big
shot to give a simple catch to Gardner at the boundary. Green and Devine added
27 runs in 5 overs.
At the end of six overs, New Zealand women scored 34 for 1. Georgia
Warhem produced a good delivery to stump Sophie Devine to put White Ferns under
some pressure. In the same over, Haynes hit a pinpoint direct throw getting rid
of Suzie Bates leaving White Ferns at 44 for 3.
Amy Satterthwaite and Katey Martin steadied the ship taking
singles and hitting occasional boundaries to put some pressure on Australian bowlers.
The things looked comfortable for White Ferns but Warhem made an important
breakthrough to get rid of Martin. Martin and Satterthwaite added 52 runs for
the 4th wicket. In the next over, Jonassen dismissed Satterthwaite with
an inside edge onto the stumps.
The match went right down the wire with 8 runs required off
6 balls, Amelia Kerr hit 2 lovely boundaries to help New Zealand women win the
match by 5 wickets with 3 balls to spare. Jensen also gave good support making
the task easy.
New Zealand women 125 for 5 in 19.3 overs (Satterthwaite 30,
Devine 25, Warhem 2/19) beat Australian women 123 for 7 in 20 overs (Gardner
29, Lanning 21, Amelia Kerr 2/18, Tahuhu 2/29) by five wickets.
For her all-round performance, Amelia Kerr was awarded the
player of the match. Ashleigh Gardner was awarded the player of the series
award. The Australian women won 3 matches T20I series 2-1.
