IPL Match 6: All-round Kings XI Punjab crush RCB

 

Kings XI Punjab produced an all-round display as they defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by a massive margin in the 6th match of IPL played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Thursday.

 

 

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to field first. Mayank Agarwal and KL Rahul began off to a steady start putting pressure with boundaries. Umesh Yadav was wayward with his bowling giving away free runs. Navdeep Saini was bought into the attack replacing but could not steam the flow. At the end of six overs, Kings XI Punjab openers scored 50.

Yuzvendra Chahal was bought into the attack and produced a googly to dismiss Mayank Agarwal. Kings XI Punjab openers put on 57 runs in 7 overs. KL Rahul looked in brilliant touch putting pressure on the RCB bowlers. Nicolas Pooran promoted to number 3 faced some problems against Yuzvendra Chahal. At the end of the first strategic timeout, Kings XI Punjab made 70 for 1.

KL Rahul completed his fifty off 36 balls and made the batting look easy. It was a masterstroke as Shivam Dube got rid of Nicolas Pooran who came down the track and gave an easy to Ab De Villiers at mid-off. Pooran and Rahul added 57 runs for the 2nd wicket. At the end of the second timeout, Kings XI Punjab made 118 for 2.

Yuzvendra Chahal completed his full quota of overs. Shivam Dube struck for the 2nd time as he dismissed Maxwell giving a simple catch to Aaron Finch at extra cover.  KL Rahul was dropped twice by Virat Kohli and had to pay dearly. It was an amazing hitting by Kings XI Punjab leading from the front to complete his 2nd IPL century off 62 balls. Karun Nair also gave him good support remaining not out on 15 off 8 balls. Rahul smashed 26 runs off Dale Steyn in the 19th over while Shivam Dube gave away 23 runs in the final over. KL Rahul remained not out on 132 helping Kings XI Punjab post 206 for 3 from 20 overs.

Chasing 207 runs to win, it was not an ideal start as Devdutt Paddikal tried to hit a forceful shot but gave a simple catch to Ravi Bishnoi at mid-on. Joshua Phillippe promoted at number 3 was dismissed by Mohammed Shami. RCB captain Virat Kohli fell cheaply as he tried to hit a big shot and caught by Bishnoi at mid-on.

Aaron Finch was given out by the umpire but decided to review the decision and was overturned as hit the pad. AB de Villiers played some lovely shots putting pressure on Kings XI bowlers. Ravi Bishnoi was bought into the attack and did a decent job. At the end of six overs, RCB scored 40 for 3.

Ravi Bishnoi struck by getting rid of Aaron Finch with a good delivery that hit the bails playing a cut shot. De Villers and Finch added 49 runs for the 4th wicket. Murgan Ashwin dismissed AB de Villiers as Sarfraz Khan took a good catch at sweeper cover. With that, the first strategic timeout was taken.

It was a huge task for Royal Challengers Bangalore batsmen. Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube showed some bright shots. Kings XI Punjab bowled out RCB for 109 in 17 overs to register an emphatic 97 runs win.

Kings XI Punjab moved up to the top of the points table with a good net run rate. For his breathtaking knock of 132*, KL Rahul was named the man of the match award.

Kings XI Punjab 206 for 3 in 20 overs ( KL Rahul 132*, Shivam Dube 2/33) beat RCB 109 in 17 overs ( Washington Sundar 30, AB de Villiers 28, Ravi Bishnoi 3/32, M Ashwin 3/21) by 97 runs.
