Stats: Pakistan young bowler picks a unique feat in T20 format
The left-arm young teen sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi was at
his best during the Natwest T20 Blast 2020. He achieved this amazing feat playing
for Hampshire against Middlesex played at Ageas Bowl, Southampton on 20th
September 2020.
Hampshire captain James Vince won the toss and decided to
bat first. It was a disappointing batting performance by the hosts who never
looked at ease losing wickets at regular intervals. Apart from Sam Northeast making
31 off 28 balls, Alsop 25 off 22 balls, and Holland 25 off 20 balls, none of
Hampshire batsmen could not score runs. Hampshire posted 141 for 9 at the end
of 20 overs.
Felix Organ took the first two wickets of Middlesex. The
youngster came into the attack by dismissing Stephen Eskinzai to put the
visitors under some pressure. After a decent partnership, Afridi struck again to
get rid of Luke Hollman to reduce Middlesex to 80 for 6. John Simpson took most
of the strike and kept Hampshire on course for a win. On the other hand, Tom
Helm did not face many balls.
With things looking in control for Middlesex, Shaheen Shah
Afridi dismissed the dangerous John Simpson. He then dismissed Steve Finn,
Thilian Walallawita and Tim Murtagh off successive balls to pick up a hattrick.
All his dismissals were clean bowled. It was an amazing bowling spell by
Shaheen Shah Afridi who snatched victory from jaws of defeat. He ended with
figures of 6 for 19 in 4 overs to give Hampshire a thrilling 20 runs win. Despite
his efforts, Hampshire is currently at the last position in the points table
with 5 points from 10 games in North Group.
The youngster did not perform according to expectations in
the T20I series against England. He decided to stay in England and play the
Natwest T20 Blast tournament. His figures of 6 for 19 are his best figures.
This will give confidence for the youngster to improve his
performance for Pakistan. He has played a total of 15 T20Is and taken 18
wickets at an economy of 7.52 runs per over.
