IPL Match 37: All-round Rajasthan Royals defeat CSK

 

An all-round performance helped Rajasthan Royals defeat Chennai Super Kings easily in the 37th match of IPL 2020 played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Monday.

 

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start for CSK Faf du Plessis was lucky to survive few chances before Archer dismissed him with a stunning catch by Jos Buttler. Shane Watson hit 3 boundaries off Karthik Tyagi’s over. Rahul Tewaita picked a decent catch at midwicket to get rid of Watson.

Ambati Rayudu looked positive right from word go and put RR bowlers under pressure. Before the end of the power play overs, Karthik Tyagi bowled a superb over giving away just 2 runs. At the end of the first six overs, CSK made 43 for 2. 

After the field restrictions, Gopal and Tewaita were bought into the attack. Gopal struck for Rajasthan Royals dismissing Sam Curran trying to hit a big shot and taken by the fielder at long-off to leave CSK in trouble at 53 for 3. With that, the first timeout was called.

Ambati Rayudu survived an LBW shout that was given out by the umpire and CSK decide to review the decision, it was overturned due to the ball sliding down leg. Soon after, Tewaita struck dismissing Rayudu with a simple catch to Sanju Samson leaving CSK in big trouble. Ravindra Jadeja hit some lovely boundaries putting some pressure on RR. At the end of the second timeout, CSK made 85 for 4.

MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja could hit big strokes in the death overs. Dhoni fell short of the crease while taking the second run. The experienced duo added 51 runs for the 5th wicket. Kedar Jadhav looked out of sorts as Chennai Super Kings could only post 125 in the allotted 20 overs.

Chasing a modest total of 126 runs to win, Robin Uthappa survived a close LBW shout given not out by the umpire and Dhoni decided to review the decision, it was retained due to the umpires call. Ben Stokes looked in cracking form with attacking stroke play. Deepak Chahar got the breakthrough hitting inside edge onto the stumps. Hazlewood did the job for CSK as Robin Uthappa played a rash stroke giving a simple catch to Dhoni. Sanju Samson's poor form continued as MS Dhoni took a low catch to leave RR in trouble at 28 for 3.

Steve Smith survived a close LBW shout that was not given out by the umpire. MS Dhoni decided to review the decision and it was retained hitting the inside edge. At the end of the first six overs, Rajasthan Royals made 31 for 3.

MS Dhoni bowled both Deepak Chahar and Hazlewood in his four overs. Jos Buttler played with positive intent against Jadeja while Smith struggled. At the end of the first timeout, RR made 51 for 3.

Buttler looked in decent touch putting pressure on CSK bowlers and completed his fifty off 37 balls. After struggling initially, Smith joined the party. At the end of the second timeout, RR made 112 for 3. Buttler and Smith put on unbeaten 98 runs for the 3rd wicket to help Rajasthan Royals win the match by seven wickets with 15 balls to spare.

With this win, RR moved up to fifth in the points table. For his unbeaten 70, Jos Buttler was named the man of the match award.

Rajasthan Royals 126 for 3 in 17.3 overs ( Buttler 70*Smith 26*, Chahar 2/18) beat Chennai Super Kings 125 for 5 in 20 overs ( Jadeja 35*, MS Dhoni 28, Archer 1/20) by seven wickets.








RR beat CSK by 7 wickets in the 37th match of IPL 2020
