IPL Match 39: Royal Challengers Bangalore hammer KKR
Royal Challengers Bangalore produced a dominating
performance as they decimate Kolkata Knight Riders easily in the 39th
match of IPL 2020 played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on
Wednesday.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and
decided to bat first. After a decent first over from Chris Morris, Mohammed
Siraj did a superb job for RCB dismissing Rahul Tripathi and then Nitish Rana
with a beauty. He gave no runs in his first over.
Navdeep Saini was bought into the attack and got rid of
Shubman Gill giving a simple catch to Morris at midwicket to leave KKR in
tatters at 3 for 3. Tom Banton hit 1 boundary and 1 six. Siraj struck again for
RCB dismissing Banton to make the matter worst for KKR. In his 2nd
over too, Siraj did not give any runs. Things could have been worst as RCB
decided to review the decision for LBW, it was retained due to the umpire’s call.
RCB bowlers did not allow KKR batsmen scoring runs easily. At the end of the
first six overs, KKR looked in deep trouble at 17 for 4.
Dinesh Karthik and Eoin Morgan struggled against RCB bowling.
Chahal struck for RCB dismissing Karthik with a review. The umpires gave it not
out and Kohli decided to review the decision, it was overturned hitting the leg
stump to leave KKR in trouble at 32 for 5. With that wicket, the first timeout
was called.
RCB bowlers kept a tight leash on KKR batsmen and did not
allow them to score runs easily. Chahal got the wicket of Pat Cummins with a
simple catch to Paddikal at long-off. At the end of the second timeout, KKR
made 52 for 6. Washington Sundar got the big wicket of Eoin Morgan to leave KKR
in massive trouble. Kuldeep Yadav and Ferguson put some runs with good hits but
was not enough. Mohammed Siraj could have got his fourth wicket as Kohli
decided to review the decision, it was upheld due to hitting the inside edge. Kuldeep was run out while taking the second run.
RCB restricted KKR to 84 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 85 runs to win, Aaron Finch and Paddikal provided a
decent start for RCB with positive stroke play. At the end of the first six
overs, RCB made 44 for 0. Ferguson struck dismissing Finch with good delivery.
RCB openers put on 46 runs.
A miscommunication between Paddikal and Gurkeerat Singh Mann
resulted in Paddikal run out. Virat Kohli struggled initially but remained solid.
At the end of the first timeout, Royal Challengers Bangalore made 54 for 2.
After the timeout, Kohli hit some lovely boundaries to gain
confidence. Gurkeerat Singh looked also got game time with the bat and looked confident.
Royal Challengers Bangalore won the match comfortably by 8 wickets with 39
balls to spare. Mann and Kohli added unbeaten 39 runs for the 3rd
wicket.
For his superb spell of 3 for 8 in 4 overs, Mohammed Siraj
was named the man of the match award. With this win, RCB moved to the second of the points table.
Royal Challengers Bangalore 85 for 2 in 13.3 overs (Finch
25, Mann 21*, Kohli 18, Ferguson 1/17) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 84 for 8 in
20 overs (Morgan 30, Ferguson 19*, Siraj 3/8) by 8 wickets
RCB move to 2nd in the points table with a crushing 8 wicket win over KKR
