Thanks to an unbeaten partnership between Manish Pandey and
Vijay Shankar, Sunrisers Hyderabad register comfortable win over Rajasthan
Royals in the 40th match of IPL 2020 played at Dubai International
Stadium, Dubai on Thursday.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and
decided to field first. After a decent first over by Sandeep Sharma, Stokes and
Uthappa took on SRH bowlers with positive strokes. Jason Holder provided the
breakthrough for SRH with a brilliant direct throw as Uthappa was slow to turn
and fell short of the crease. Rajasthan Royals openers put on 30 runs in 3.3 overs.
It was a decent start by Sanju Samson with lovely strokes
while on other hand Stokes struggled with his timing. At the end of the first
six overs, Rajasthan Royals made 47 for 1. After the field restrictions,
Natarajan was bought into the attack. Vijay Shankar dropped a chance to dismiss
Stokes as hit the chest and could not catch on the rebound. Samson looked in decent
touch putting pressure on SRH bowlers. At the end of the first timeout, RR made
68 for 1.
Stokes struggled against Rashid Khan and was not able to
time the ball. On the other hand, Sanju Samson played some lovely shots to put
pressure on SRH bowlers. After being hit for a six, Jason Holder got rid of
Samson hitting the top of the leg. Samson and Stokes added 56 runs for the 2nd
wicket. In the next over, Rashid Khan produced a beauty to dismiss Stokes to
leave RR in trouble at 86 for 3.
Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers kept a tight line and length on
RR not allowing them to score runs easily. Vijay Shankar provided the
breakthrough dismissing dangerous Jos Buttler with an easy catch to Nadeem at
backward point. With that wicket, Rajasthan Royals ended the second timeout at
110 for 4.
Riyan Parag provided some quick runs with innovative strokes
against Natarajan. Jason Holder bowled a superb 19th over taking the
wickets of Smith and Parag. Smith was caught by Pandey at long-on while Parag
caught by David Warner on the third attempt. Jofra Archer hit a quickfire 16
off 7 balls to help Rajasthan Royals post 154 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 155 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for SRH
as David Warner was brilliantly caught by Ben Stokes at second slip in the
first over. Manish Pandey came to the crease and looked in great touch right
from word go. Archer struck again to dismiss Bairstow with beauty to create
pressure on SRH.
Manish Pandey counter-attacked with aggressive strokes
against Karthik Tyagi and put RR bowlers under immense pressure. At the end of
the six overs, SRH scored 58 for 2.
Pandey continued his superb touch and made the batting look
easy. On the other hand, Vijay Shankar also remained steady giving most of the
strike to Pandey. Rajasthan Royals decided to review the decision for LBW. The
decision remained not out as the ball was pitching outside off. Pandey
completed his fifty off just 28 balls. At the end of the first timeout, SRH
scored 76 for 2.
After the timeout, Pandey, and Shankar in complete control.
Steve Smith bought in Jofra Archer to make breakthroughs but both SRH batsmen
played him sensibly. Both batsmen looked comfortable with their strokes and
kept on ticking the scoreboard. At the end of the second timeout, Sunrisers
Hyderabad scored 131 for 2.
