IPL Match 41: Mumbai Indians crush CSK to knock them out of the tournament
Mumbai Indians produced a dominating performance as they won
the match easily against Chennai Super Kings in the 41st match of
IPL 2020 played at Sharjah Cricket Ground, Sharjah on Friday.
Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Kieron Pollard won the toss
and decided to field first. It was an ideal start as Trent Boult produced an in-swinging
delivery to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad. The umpire gave it not out and Pollard
decided to review, it was overturned. Jasprit Bumrah made the matter worst for
CSK as he dismissed Rayudu with a bouncer and then dismissed Jagadeesan with a
simple catch to Surya Kumar Yadav at slips.
The things got worse for CSK as Boult got rid of Faf du
Plessis to leave them in tatters at 3 for 4. MS Dhoni and Jadeja hit some
lovely shots before Boult struck dismissing Jadeja who came down the track
giving a simple catch to Krunal Pandya at midwicket. At the end of the first
six overs, CSK looked in deep trouble at 24 for 5.
Rahul Chahar dismissed CSK captain, MS Dhoni, with a lovely
delivery edging the bat and giving a simple catch to de Kock. Chahar struck again
to get rid of Deepak Chahar to make matters worst for CSK. At the end of the
first timeout, CSK made 43 for 7.
Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran slowed the scoring after a flurry of wickets. Curran looked solid as ever while Thakur could not score
much. At the end of the second timeout, CSK made 63 for 7. Coulter Nile got the
wicket of Thakur giving a simple catch to Surya Kumar Yadav at backward point.
Imran Tahir joined in and gave good support to Curran.
Curran hit some lovely shots in the last over to complete his fifty off 46
balls. Trent Boult dismissed Curran off the final ball. CSK posted 114 for 9 in
20 overs.
Chasing a modest total of 115 runs to win, Ishan Kishan and
de Kock showed their positive intent putting CSK bowlers under pressure. MI
openers looked in complete control. At the end of the first six overs, Mumbai
Indians made 52 for 0.
Kishan opening the innings looked in great touch and never
looked in discomfort. At the end of the first timeout, MI made 64 for 0. Kishan
smashed CSK bowlers to complete his fifty off just 29 balls. De Kock and Kishan
kept on scoring runs easily helping Mumbai Indians win the match by 10 wickets
with 46 balls to spare.
By the virtue of this win, Mumbai Indians move up to the top
of the points table due to a better run-rate. For his superb spell of 4 for 18 in 4
overs, Boult was named the man of the match award.
Mumbai Indians 116 for 0 in 12.2 overs (Kishan 68*, de Kock
46*) beat Chennai Super Kings 114 for 9 in 20 overs (Sam Curran 52, Boult 4/18,
Bumrah 2/25) by 10 wickets.
