IPL Match 44: Chennai Super Kings register a comfortable win over RCB

 

Thanks to all-round performance, Chennai Super Kings register a comfortable win over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 44th match played at Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on Sunday.

RCB captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. Aaron Finch and Devdutt Paddikal got off to a cautious start with positive stroke play. Sam Curran coming into the attack dismissed Aaron Finch gave a simple catch to Gaikwad at covers. Paddikal looked impressive and created pressure on CSK bowlers. At the end of the first six overs, RCB made 46 for 1.

Soon after the field restrictions, Mitchell Santer was bought into the attack and got rid of Paddikal with a good relay catch by Faf du Plessis and Gaikwad. The experienced duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers kept on ticking the scoreboard with singles and hitting occasional boundaries. At the end of the first timeout, RCB made 63 for 2.

Ravindra Jadeja missed a chance to run out AB de Villiers. Jadeja and Tahir kept the pressure on the experienced duo. Kohli was given a reprieve by Jadeja on his own bowling. It was decent batting as they hit some lovely strokes. At the end of the second timeout, RCB made 114 for 2.

The things looked set for the duo to hit big but Chahar got the wicket of AB de Villiers with an easy catch to du Plessis at long-on. De Villiers and Kohli added 82 runs for the 3rd wicket. Kohli looked composed and reached his fifty off 42 balls. Sam Curran got rid of Moeen Ali with a slower delivery giving a catch to Faf du Plessis at long-off. Faf du Plessis took a remarkable catch to dismiss well-set Kohli.

Deepak Chahar bowled a stunning 20th over dismissing Chris Morris with a stunning yorker. In the last 3 overs, RCB made just 20 runs and lost 4 wickets. RCB posted 145 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 146 runs to win, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis got the team off to a decent start putting pressure on RCB bowlers. After failing badly in the first two chances, Gaikwad made the batting look easy while du Plessis also timed the ball. Chris Morris got the breakthrough getting the wicket of Faf du Plessis with a lovely catch running back by Siraj. CSK openers put on 46 runs. At the end of the first six overs, CSK made 48 for 1.

Gaikwad and Rayudu showed tremendous trust with their stroke play. At the end of the first timeout, CSK made 71 for 1. The RCB bowling did not bowl according to the field and gave too many loose balls to Rayudu and Gaikwad.

Gaikwad and Rayudu kept on ticking the scoreboard making life easy for CSK. At the end of the second timeout, CSK made 111 for 1.

Yuzvendra Chahal was bought into the attack to get rid of Rayudu. Rayudu and Gaikwad added 67 runs for the 2nd wicket. Gaikwad looked composed to reach his maiden IPL fifty off 42 balls. MS Dhoni and Gaikwad completed the job for CSK putting on unbeaten 37 runs for the 3rd wicket.

For his unbeaten knock of 65 from 51 balls, Gaikwad was named the man of the match award.

CSK 150 for 2 in 18.4 overs (Gaikwad 65, Rayudu 39, Chahal 1/21) beat RCB 145 for 6 in 20 overs ( Kohli 50, de Villiers 39, Sam Curran 3/19) by 8 wickets.  








CSK beat RCB by 8 wickets in the 44th match of IPL 2020
