IPL Match 48: Surya Kumar Yadav leads Mumbai Indians to a win over RCB

 

Surya Kumar’s brilliant knock helped Mumbai Indians defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore easily in the 48th match of IPL 2020 played at Sheikh Zayed International Stadium, Abu Dhabi on Wednesday.

Mumbai Indians captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and decided to field first. Joshua Phillippe and Paddikal started cautiously against Bumrah. After the initial spell, RCB openers took the attack to Boult, Pattinson and Krunal Pandya hitting him for runs putting Mumbai Indians bowlers under pressure. At the end of the first six overs, RCB made 54 for 0. With that, the first timeout was called.

Rahul Chahar was bought into the attack but Paddikal and Philippe looked decent with their stroke play. After being hit for 2 boundaries, de Kock produced a superb stumping to dismiss Philippe. RCB openers put on 71 runs. Virat Kohli struggled to time the ball and looked out of sorts. On the other hand, Paddikal impressed making the batting look easy reaching his fifty off 30 balls. Jasprit Bumrah provided the breakthrough for Mumbai Indians dismissing RCB captain Kohli taking the edge as Saurabh Tiwary took a smart catch at midwicket.

AB de Villiers showed glimpses of big shots putting Mumbai Indian bowlers under pressure. Kieron Pollard dismissed de Villiers with a full toss straight into the hands of Chahar at deep square leg. With that wicket, the second timeout was called at 131 for 3. De Villiers and Paddikal added 36 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Jasprit Bumrah did a superb job for Mumbai Indians taking wickets of Shivam Dube and then well-set Paddikal. Chris Morris also went cheaply in search of quick runs. Gurkeerat Singh Mann hit some vital runs off Trent Boult over to help RCB post 164 for 6 in 20 overs.

Chasing 165 runs to win, Ishan Kishan looked impressive with his stroke play while de Kock gave the strike to Kishan. Washington Sundar was bought into the attack and did a superb job with tight lines and lengths. Mohammed Siraj provided a breakthrough for RCB getting rid of de Kock giving a catch to Gurkeerat Singh Mann at deep midwicket. MI openers put on 37 runs.

At the end of the first power play over, Mumbai Indians scored 45 for 1. Yuzvendra Chahal was bought into the attack and got the wicket in his first over dismissing Ishan Kishan coming down the track giving a simple catch to Chris Morris. At the end of the first timeout, MI made 58 for 2.

A sensational catch by Devdutt Paddikal ended the innings for Saurabh Tiwary to leave MI in trouble. Surya Kumar Yadav looked composed taking on RCB bowlers. He put enough pressure hitting Chahal for brilliant shots to put enough pressure. Krunal Pandya was promoted ahead at number 5 and struggled with his timing. Chahal struck to get rid of Krunal Pandya at long-off. Krunal and Surya Kumar added 35 runs for the 4th wicket.

Surya Kumar Yadav looked composed and completed his fifty off 29 balls. He was in great touch making life tough for RCB bowlers. Hardik Pandya showed class with his hitting. At the end of the second timeout, MI made 130 for 4.

Dale Steyn was out of control with his line and lengths. Chris Morris dismissed Hardik Pandya with a good catch by Siraj at extra cover. Hardik and Surya added 51 runs for the 5th wicket. Surya Kumar finished the inning with a boundary to help MI win the match by 5 wickets.

For his knock 79* off 45 balls, Surya Kumar Yadav was named the man of the match award.

Mumbai Indians 166 for 5 in 19.1 overs ( Surya Kumar Yadav 79*, Siraj 2/28, Chahal 2/37) beat RCB 164 for 6 in 20 overs ( Paddikal 74, Phillippe 33, Bumrah 3/14) by 5 wickets








Mumbai Indians beat RCB by 5 wickets to move one step closer to the playoffs stage
