IPL Match 52: Sunrisers Hyderabad beat RCB to stay alive in the tournament
Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore
comfortably in the 52nd match of the tournament played at Sharjah
Cricket Stadium, Sharjah on Saturday.
SRH captain David Warner won the toss and decided to field
first. It was an ideal start for Warner led side as Sandeep Sharma got rid of Devdutt
Paddikal with a wild swipe hitting the wickets. Sharma bowled with tight lines
and lengths not allowing RCB batsmen to score runs easily. A superb catch by
Williamson ended the innings for Kohli.
Joshua Phillippe struggled for the timing and could not hit
big shots. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 30 for 2. Shahbaz Nadeem
was bought into the attack dropping a tough return catch to dismiss AB de
Villiers. Phillippe looked edgy but put some pressure on SRH bowling. RCB ended
the first timeout at 52 for 2.
AB de Villiers and Phillippe stepped the ante with lovely
strokes. Shahbaz Nadeem produced the big wicket of de Villiers by Abishek
Sharma. De Villiers and Philippe added 43 runs for the 3rd wicket. Phillippe
was not able to read Rashid Khan’s deliveries. Khan then finally got rid of
Phillippe with a simple catch to Pandey at deep midwicket. Washington Sundar
and Gurkeerat Singh Mann could not time the ball but hit good strokes. At the
end of the second timeout, RCB scored 86 for 4.
T Natarajan took a good return catch to dismiss Washington
Sundar. Sundar and Mann added 30 runs for the 5th wicket. Sunrisers
Hyderabad kept a tight line and length restricting RCB to just 120 for 7 in 20
overs.
Chasing 121 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for SRH
as Sundar struck getting rid of Warner with an easy catch from Udana at mid-on.
Manish Pandey and Wriddhman Saha took the attack to RCB bowlers with attacking
stroke play. At the end of the first six overs, SRH scored 58 for 1. With that,
the first timeout was called.
After the timeout, Yuzvendra Chahal was bought into the
attack and dismissed the well-set Manish Pandey trying to play a big shot.
Pandey and Saha added 50 runs for the 2nd wicket. RCB appealed for a run-out call hitting the hands of Chahal but the decision remained not out. Chahal
struck again to dismiss Wriddhman Saha to leave SRH in trouble.
Udana was bought into the attack and dismissed Kane
Williamson leaving SRH in trouble at 87 for 4. RCB called for a review but the decision remained as it. Jason Holder played a blinder of an innings remaining
not out on 26 off 10 balls. SRH won the match by 5 wickets to up the net run
rate.
By the virtue of this loss, RCB remains at number 2nd
place but poor net run rate. For his superb spell of 2 for 20 in 4 overs,
Sandeep Sharma was named the man of the match award.
SRH 121 for 5 in 14.1 overs ( Saha 39, Holder 26*, Chahal
2/19) beat RCB 120 for 7 in 20 overs ( Phillippe 32, AB de Villers 24, Sandeep
Sharma 2/20, Holder 2/27) by 5 wickets.
