Match 51: Mumbai Indians decimate Delhi Capitals
Mumbai Indians produced a dominating display to beat Delhi
Capitals with ease in the 51st match of IPL 2020 played at Dubai
International Stadium, Dubai on Saturday.
Mumbai Indians captain Kieron Pollard won the toss and
decided to field first. It was an ideal start for MI as Trent Boult got rid of
Shikhar Dhawan with an excellent diving catch by Surya Kumar Yadav at backward
point. Prithvi Shaw played two cracking shots but played a rash stroke to be
caught by Quinton de Kock.
Iyer was given not out by the umpire as Mumbai Indians asked
for a review and the decision remained as it. At the end of the first six
overs, Delhi Capitals struggled at 26 for 2.
It was a disappointing batting effort by Iyer and Pant who
could not time the ball. At the end of the first timeout, Delhi Capitals scored
44 for 2. Rahul Chahar produced a good delivery to dismiss Iyer with superb
stumping by de Kock. Iyer and Pant added 35 runs for the 3rd wicket.
The things got worse for Delhi Capitals as Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Marcus
Stoinis and Rishabh Pant in the same over to leave DC in tatters. Shimron
Hetymer also fell cheaply as DC innings fell apart. At the end of the second
timeout, Delhi Capitals made 78 for 7.
Mumbai Indians bowlers never allowed Delhi Capitals to
settle and restricted them to a paltry total of 110 for 9 in 20 overs. Jasprit
Bumrah and Trent Boult were the pick of the bowlers for MI.
Chasing 111 runs to win, Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock
began off cautiously but took on Delhi Capitals bowlers with amazing strokes.
At the end of the first six overs, Mumbai Indians made 68 for 0.
Anrich Nortje got the only wicket for Delhi as he dismissed
Quinton de Kock with the bails falling. Mumbai Indians openers put on 68 runs.
Kishan made the batting look easy and completed his fifty off 37 balls. It was
a dominating performance by MI as they cruised to a comfortable 9 wickets win
with 34 balls to spare.
With this win, Mumbai Indians moved up to 18 points and confirmed
their place in the first place. For his superb knock of 72*, Ishan Kishan was named
the man of the match award.
Mumbai Indians 111 for 1 in 14.2 overs (Ishan Kishan 72*,
Nortje 1/25) beat Delhi Capitals 110 for 9 in 20 overs ( Iyer 25, Bumrah 3/17,
