England seal the series with a thrilling win
England sealed the 3 matches T20I series with a thrilling win over
South Africa played at Paarl on Sunday.
England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to
field first. Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock gave a flying start for the hosts
putting on a quickfire start. Jofra Archer produced a beauty to dismiss Bavuma
cheaply. Quinton de Kock looked impressive with his stroke play making life
tough for the opposition. Chris Jordan got rid of dangerous de Kock to put some
pressure on the South African batsmen. At the end of the first six overs, South
Africa made 50 for 2.
Adil Rashid bowled brilliantly with his variations and troubled
the South African batsmen. Rashid dismissed Reeza Hendricks and Faf du Plessis
to create enough pressure on the hosts. Linde and Van der Dussen added unbeaten
51 runs for the 6th wicket. At the end of the 20 overs, South Africa
scored 146 for 6.
Chasing 147 runs to win, Jason Roy and Buttler made a steady
start to the innings. Lungi Ngidi got the breakthrough dismissing Roy with a simple catch to Klassen. At the end of the first six overs, England made 41 for
1.
After the field restrictions, the South African bowlers made
a good comeback as Shamsi dismissed Bairstow. David Malan created pressure on
Proteas bowling with attacking strokes while the other England batsmen
struggled. With 50 runs required off 5 overs, Malan took the attack and made
batting look easy.
Malan completed his fifty off 39 balls and kept England
on course for a win. England captain Eoin Morgan showed innovative strokes
making life tough for the opposition. Ngidi struck for South Africa to get rid of
Malan to give South Africa some hopes. Malan and Morgan added 51 runs for the 5th
wicket.
With 3 runs required off 6 balls, Rabada bowled Sam Curran.
Chris Jordan hit the winning runs for England to win the match by 4 wickets with
1 ball to spare.
England 147 for 6 in 19.5 overs (Malan 55, Morgan 26, Shamsi
3/19, Ngidi 2/51) beat South Africa 146 for 6 in 20 overs ( de Kock 30, Linde
29, Adil Rashid 2/23) by 4 wickets.
For his 55 off 40 balls, David Malan was named the man of
the match award. The England team sealed the 3-match series with 1 game to
spare. Both teams will square in the final match on 1st December at Cape
Town.
