IPL Match 56: SRH thump MI by 10 wickets to qualify for the playoffs
Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets in
the final league match of IPL 2020 played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah
on Tuesday.
Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner won the toss and
decided to field first. It was an ideal start for SRH as Sandeep Sharma
dismissed Rohit Sharma giving a simple catch to Warner at mid-off. Rohit looked
rusty after missing a few matches due to injuries. Quinton de Kock looked in
cracking touch and put the SRH bowlers. After being hit for 16 runs, Sandeep
Sharma got the wicket of de Kock hitting inside onto the stumps. At the end of
the six overs, Mumbai Indians scored 48 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Surya Kumar Yadav played with
intent and kept the scoreboard ticking along with Ishan Kishan. At the end of
the first timeout, Mumbai Indians made 59 for 2. Surya Kumar and Kishan kept on
making life tough for SRH bowlers. Shahbaz Nadeem provided the breakthrough for
SRH getting the wicket of well-set Surya Kumar with a good stumping by Saha.
Surya Kumar and Kishan added 42 runs for the 3rd wicket. Rashid Khan
and Shahbaz Nadeem broke the backbone of the MI line up dismissing Krunal Pandya
and Saurabh Tiwary to leave MI in trouble at 82 for 5.
Kieron Pollard remained cautious with his approach as
wickets fell at another end. Rashid Khan dropped a simple chance off own
bowling. In the same over, SRH decided to review the decision for LBW but was
not given not-out due to the umpire’s call. At the end of the second timeout, MI
made 98 for 5.
After the timeout, Ishan Kishan decided to put the pressure
back on SRH bowlers. Sandeep Sharma dismissed Kishan with an inside edge onto
the stumps. In the next over, Jason Holder dismissed Nathan Coulter Nile giving a simple catch to Garg at extra cover. Before hitting 3 sixes, Pollard was given
out by the umpire and the decision was overturned as there was an inside edge onto
the stumps. Pollard took the attack to T Natarajan with 3 sixes scoring 20 runs
in the 19th over. Jason Holder dismissed the dangerous Pollard
hitting the stumps. Mumbai Indians posted 149 for 8 in 20 overs.
Chasing 150 runs to win, David Warner and Wriddhman Saha
started off cautiously before taking on the Mumbai Indians bowlers with ease.
It was an excellent batting display by the SRH openers who kept the momentum going.
At the end of the first six overs, SRH raced away to 56 for 0. With that, the
first timeout was called.
Warner and Saha made the batting look easy keeping the
scoreboard ticking making life tough for Mumbai Indians. SRH openers kept on
hitting gaps and showed his class. Warner completed his fifty-first off 35
balls and then Saha too reached his half-century off 34 balls. With the
scoreboard reading 122 for 0, the second timeout was taken.
It was a dominating performance by SRH openers who completed
the task comfortably winning the match by 10 wickets with 17 balls to spare.
SRH finished the league stage in third place with 14 points having a better run rate. For his figures of 2 for 19 in 4 overs, Shahbaz Nadeem was
named the man of the match award.
Mumbai Indians will face off Delhi Capitals in the first qualifiers
while SRH takes on RCB in the eliminator on 6th November.
SRH 151 for 0 in 17.1 overs (Warner 85*, Saha 58*, Coulter Nile
0/27) beat Mumbai Indians 149 for 8 in 20 overs ( Pollard 41, Surya Kumar Yadav
36, Sandeep Sharma 3/34, Nadeem 2/19) by 10 wickets.
