India versus Australia 1st Test 2nd Day: India in decent position at end of day 2
The second day’s play of the 1st Day-Night Test match played
between India and Australia saw some exciting action played at Adelaide Oval on
Friday.
Starting on the overnight score of 233 for 6, it was not an
ideal start for the Indian team as Pat Cummins produced a beauty to dismiss
Ravichandran Ashwin. Wriddhiman Saha tried to slash a shot but gave a simple
catch to Tim Paine. Umesh Yadav came to the crease and cracked a lovely boundary
before Starc dismissed him.
Pat Cummins bowled a stunning bouncer to dismiss Mohammed
Shami to bowl out India for 244. Umesh Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah put a tight
leash by bowling good line and lengths. Australia opened their account on the
28th delivery. After the initial spell, Mohammed Shami was bought
into the attack and troubled the Australian openers.
Bumrah changed his ends and got the breakthrough dismissing
Matthew Wade. Matthew Wade was given out by the umpire and the decision was
retained due to the umpire’s call. Joe Burns looked out of sorts against Indian
bowlers. Marnus Labuschagne survived a close catch call as it fell between Saha
and first slip. Bumrah produced a superb yorker delivery to get rid of Joe
Burns. Joe Burns decided to review the decision and it was retained due to the umpire’s call. Jasprit Bumrah dropped a chance dismissing Marnus Labuschagne.
At the end of the first session, Australia scored 35 for 2.
India could have an ideal start to the session as Prithvi
Shaw dropped a simple chance to dismiss Labuschagne. Ravichandran Ashwin got
the most important wicket dismissing Steve Smith with beauty to leave
Australia in trouble. Ashwin looked impressive troubling the Australian
batsmen.
Bumrah also bowled well in tandem making life tough for the
hosts. Ashwin struck for the second time getting rid of Travis Head with a
simple return catch to the bowler. It was a superb bowling effort by Indian bowlers
making life tough for the hosts. Cameron Green playing his debut Test match
looked confident before a superb diving catch by Kohli ended his innings.
Tim Paine looked edgy against R Ashwin but remained steady
with his strokes. Australia looked in deep trouble at 92 for 5 at end of the 2nd
session. The third session Paine playing with intent putting pressure on Indian
bowlers.
Umesh Yadav got the breakthrough dismissing Marnus Labuschagne
with a ball that kept low and then bowled a beauty to dismiss Pat Cummins to
leave Australia in big trouble 111 for 7. Starc came to the crease and hit
shots right from word go. Paine on the other hand looked composed. A superb throw
by Prithvi Shaw resulted in Starc run out.
The Indian fielding was not up to the mark. Nathan Lyon was
given out by the umpire and the decision was overturned it hit the inside edge. Paine
made the batting look to reach his half-century off 68 balls. Ashwin bowled
superbly as he got rid of Nathan Lyon as Kohli took a simple catch. Josh Hazlewood
also contributed some valuable runs while Paine showed his class.
Umesh Yadav got the final wicket as Pujara took a sharp
catch at first slips to dismiss Hazlewood. India bowled out Australia for 191
taking 53 runs lead.
Tim Paine dropped a tough chance to dismiss Mayank Agarwal. Pat
Cummins got the breakthrough for Australia getting rid of Shaw. Coming as a night watchman,
Bumrah remained calm to help India day 2 on 9 for 1 leading by 62 runs.
244 in 93.1 overs ( Kohli 74,
Pujara 43, Rahane 42, Starc 4/53, Cummins 3/48) and 9 for 1 in 6 overs ( Mayank
Agarwal 5*, Cummins 1/6) lead Australia 191 in 72.1 overs ( Paine 73*, Labuschagne
47, Ashwin 4/55, Umesh Yadav 3/40) by 62 runs.
