India versus Australia 2nd Test 3rd Day: Bowlers put India on course for a victory
The Indian Cricket Team ended the 3rd day of the
2nd Test match on course for a famous win played at the Melbourne
Cricket Ground, MCG on Monday.
The Indian Team started at the overnight score of 277 for 5
with Rahane and Jadeja batting brilliantly. Both batsmen looked solid with
their defensive technique. A superb throw by Marnus Labuschagne resulted in
Rahane’s run out. Rahane and Jadeja added 121 runs for the 6th
wicket. On the other hand, Jadeja completed his half-century off 132 balls.
Ravindra Jadeja fell to the short ball trap as Mitchell
Starc took his wicket to give the hosts an opening. Ravichandran Ashwin looked
solid enough while Umesh Yadav faced top-quality bowling. Lyon got rid of Yadav
with a simple catch to Smith at slips. R Ashwin fell trying to hit a big shot
while Bumrah got out hitting a big shot. Australia bowled out India for 326 as
the visitors took 131 runs lead that could have been much bigger.
It was a superb beginning by Jasprit Bumrah and Umesh Yadav
troubling out of form Joe Burns. Bumrah bowled a brilliant yorker to review the
decision for LBW but was retained due to umpires' call. Umesh got the
breakthrough with a peach of delivery as Burns reviewed the decision. The
decision was retained.
Marnus Labuschagne looked confident with his stroke play.
Umesh Yadav had to hobble off due to an injury. Mohammed Siraj bowled his over.
R Ashwin was bought into the attack but Wade and Labuschagne made the batting
look easy. The experienced Ashwin dismissed Labuschagne as Rahane took a simple
catch at slips. Wade and Labuschagne added 38 runs for the 2nd
wicket. Steve Smith came to the crease and looked edgy against Ashwin.
Australia ended the 2nd session at 65 for 2 still trail by 66 runs.
Steve Smith and Wade started off cautiously in the 3rd
session against the Indian bowlers. Bumrah got the big wicket of Steve Smith
bowled around the legs. Travis Head and Matthew Wade steadied the Australian
innings with solid batting against the spin twin of Ashwin and Jadeja. Ravindra
Jadeja bowled a quicker one to dismiss Wade ending fighting innings.
Mohammed Siraj was bought into the attack and got rid of
Travis Head going across giving a simple catch to Agarwal. India struck again to
dismiss Australian captain Tim Paine. The umpire gave it not out and the
decision was overturned as there was an edge onto the bat to leave Australia in
massive trouble at 99 for 6.
Chris Green and Pat Cummins stop the flow of wickets putting
on unbeaten 34 runs for the 7th wicket. Australia ended the 3rd
day at 133 for 6 with a lead of 2 runs.
Australia 195 in 72.3 overs (Marnus
Labuschagne 48, Head 38, Bumrah 4/56, Ashwin 3/35) and 133 for 6 in 66 overs (
Matthew Wade 40, Labuschagne 28, Jadeja 2/25) lead India 326 in 115.1 overs (
Rahane 112, Jadeja 57, Gill 45, Starc 3/78, Lyon 3/72, Cummins 2/80) by 2
runs.
