India versus Australia 2nd Test 4th Day: India registers an historic comeback to win the 2nd Test
The Indian Cricket Team registered a historic comeback to
defeat Australia by 8 wickets on the fourth day of the 2nd Test
match played at iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, MCG on Tuesday. With this win,
India earned important points in the ICC Test Championship.
Starting on the overnight score of 133 for 6, Pat Cummins
and Chris Green continued from where they left yesterday. The Indian bowlers
surprised the Australian batsmen with bouncers making life tough for the hosts.
A superb bouncer by Jasprit Bumrah ended Pat Cummins's innings. Cummins and Green
added 57 runs for the 7th wicket.
Chris Green played with solid defensive technique as the
pitch became good to bat on. The Indian bowlers continued their short ball
barrage against Australian batsmen. Siraj dismissed Chris Green trying to pull
a shot giving a simple catch to Ravindra Jadeja. Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc
provided some resistance with solid defensive technique. Siraj got rid of Lyon
with down leg catch as the umpires decided to extend the session for another
half-hour.
The Indian bowlers tried everything against Mitchell Starc
and Josh Hazlewood. Both batsmen survived a few anxious calls. R Ashwin got rid
of Hazlewood who shouldered his arms going onto the stumps. India bowled out
Australia for 200 with a modest target of 70 runs to win.
Shubman Gill started the innings off briskly with attacking
stroke play and looked in fine touch. Mayank Agarwal’s poor form continued as
he was dismissed by Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins got the wicket of Cheteshwar
Pujara to leave India in some trouble. The Indian captain Ajiyanka Rahane and
Shubman Gill showed intent with aggressive strokes. Gill impressed with his
stroke play making life tough for the opposition. It was an amazing performance
by the Men in Blue as Gill and Rahane put on unbeaten 51 runs for the 3rd
