Pakistan versus New Zealand 2nd T20I: Tim Seifert and Kane Williamson leads New Zealand to a dominating win
Thanks to a superb batting display by Tim Seifert and Kane
Williamson, New Zealand proved too strong as they thrash Pakistan in the 2nd
T20I match played at Seddon Park, Hamilton on Sunday.
Pakistan captain Shahbad Khan won the toss and decided to
bat first. It was not an ideal start for the visitors as Haider Ali and
Abdullah Shafique were dismissed by Tim Southee. Southee bowled brilliantly
troubling the Pakistani batsmen with his swing. Mohammad Rizwan looked in
decent touch before Southee struck for the third to leave Pakistan in some
trouble. At the end of the first six overs, Pakistan made 33 for 3.
The visitors looked in deep trouble as Shahbad Khan was
dismissed cheaply by James Neesham. Mohammad Hafeez played with intent and put
the Kiwis bowlers under pressure right from word go. On the other hand, Khusdil
Shah gave good support to the experienced player. Hafeez made the batting look
easy and completed his fifty off 37 balls. Ish Sodhi provided the much-needed
wicket getting rid of Shah. Hafeez and Shah added 63 runs for the 5th
wicket.
Faheem Ashraf also failed to contribute many runs. Hafeez
did a superb job as he rotated the strike and kept on ticking the scoreboard.
He smashed 18 runs off the final over from Kyle Jamieson to remain not out on
99. Imad Wasim also provided a quickfire knock remaining not out on 10 off 5
balls to help Pakistan post 163 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing 164 runs to win, Martin Guptill and Tim Seifert
played with intent putting the pressure on Pakistan bowling line-up. Faheem
Ashraf got the breakthrough for Pakistan dismissing dangerous Guptill for a
quickfire 21 off 11 balls. Kiwis openers added 35 runs.
Pakistan missed a golden chance to dismiss Kane Williamson
as the catch went between slips and keeper. Tim Seifert kept the momentum going
with attacking strokes making life tough for the visitors. At the end of the
first six overs, Kiwis made 46 for 1.
Seifert looked in an aggressive mood smashing Wahab Riaz for 3
sixes in his first over to keep Kiwis in command. The wicketkeeper-batsman
reached his fifty off 32 balls. Kane Williamson looked in great touch playing
innovative strokes and kept the momentum going leading Kiwis dominance.
The Kiwis captain Williamson remained there on 49 for few
balls but completed his fifty off 37 balls. With 4 runs required off the last
over, Williamson hit the winning runs as Wahab Riaz dropped a chance to help
Kiwis win the match by 9 wickets with 4 balls to spare.
For his superb spell of 4 for 21 in 4 overs, Tim Southee was
named the man of the match award.
Williamson and Seifert put on unbeaten 129 runs for the 2nd
wicket. By the virtue of this win, Kiwis took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the
series. The third and final T20I will be played on 22nd December at
McLean Park, Napier.
