BBL Stats: Sydney Thunder posted highest total
It was an amazing batting display by Sydney Thunder who
posted the highest total in BBL history during the match against Sydney Sixers
played at Adelaide Oval on Friday.
Sydney Sixers captain Daniel Hughes won the toss and decided
to field first. It was a flying start by Alex Hales who put the Sixers bowlers
under immense pressure right from the word go. Usman Khawaja was dismissed
cheaply for just 6. Thunder openers put on 37 runs for the opening wicket. At
the end of the power play overs, Thunder made 43 for 1.
Hales showed his class and reached his fifty off just 26
balls. Thunder captain Callum Ferguson joined in with Hales scoring runs at a quick pace. Pope got rid of Ferguson for a quickfire 42 off 23 balls. Ferguson
and Hales added 69 runs for the 2nd wicket. Sam Billings along with
Hales made the batting look easy. Hales smashed the Thunder bowlers all over
the parts. Thunder took the power surge in the 17th over.
Hales smashed Daniel Christian for 25 runs and also
completed his maiden BBL century off 51 balls. Ben Cutting played a blinder
remaining not out on 33 off 14 balls. Alex Hales was eventually dismissed for a sensational 110 from 56 balls including 9 fours and 8 sixes. Hales and Cutting
put on 54 runs for the 4th wicket. Sydney Thunder posted 232 for 5
in 20 overs.
In reply to 233 runs to win, Sydney Sixers openers Joshua
Philippe and James Vince started off brightly scoring 40 runs in the first four
overs. Sangha and Cutting took 3 wickets between them to put the Sixers under
pressure at 62 for 3. Despite the efforts by Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk,
Sydney Sixers was behind the required run rate. Henriques and Silk added 90
runs for the 4th wicket. Sixers took the power surge in the 13th
over but scored only 29 runs.
Sixers fell short of the target by 46 runs. Thunder went
past Melbourne Renegades total of 222 for 4 against Hobart Hurricanes at Marvel
Stadium, Melbourne during BBL 6.
