Shakib AL Hasan returns to international cricket in style

 

After a ban from international cricket, one of the best all-rounders in international cricket returned in great fashion. He performed brilliantly in a 3-0 ODI series win over West Indies that concluded today.

In the opening match played on 20th January at Sher- E Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka, Shakib AL Hasan performed exceptionally with the ball on conditions helping the spinners. AL Hasan took wickets of Andre McCarthy, West Indies stand-in captain Jason Mohammed, N Booner, and Alazzari Joseph. He ended with brilliant figures of 4 for 8 in 7.2 over to bowl out the visitors for a paltry total of 122.

While chasing down this modest total, Shakib AL Hasan made 19 off 43 balls with 1 boundary. Bangladesh won the match easily by 6 wickets with 97 balls to spare. For his brilliant spell, Shakib AL Hasan was awarded the man of the match award.

Bangladesh dominated West Indies in the 2nd One-day international played at the Sher- E- Bangla Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka on 22nd January. West Indies captain Jason Mohammed won the toss and decided to bat first. The Bangladesh spinners showed their class again as they bowled out West Indies for another paltry total of 148 in 43.4 overs. Shakib AL Hasan performed brilliantly with figures of 2 for 30 in 10 overs. He took wickets of Andre McCarthy and Jason Mohammed. Shakib AL Hasan showed his batting skills remaining not out on 43 off 50 balls to help Bangladesh register an emphatic 7 wickets with 100 balls to spare.

In the final ODI match played on 25th January 2021 at Zahur Ahmed Chaudhary Stadium, Chattgoram, Bangladesh made another dominating display to defeat West Indies by a massive margin. West Indies captain Jason Mohammed won the toss and decided to field first.

Despite losing 2 early wickets, Bangladeshi stand-in captain Tamim Iqbal and Shakib AL Hasan steadied the innings putting on 93 runs for the 3rd wicket. Shakib played a sensible innings scoring 51 off 81 balls. Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah knock helped Bangladesh post a competitive total of 297 for 6.

Shakib AL Hasan bowled just 4.5 overs and gave just 12 runs. Despite his efforts, Bangladesh bowled out West Indies for 177 in 44.2 overs to give the hosts a resounding 120 runs win to whitewash the visitors 3-0. For his 113 runs and 6 wickets, Shakib AL Hasan was named the man of the series award.
