Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021 Quarterfinals 3 : Vishnu Solanki brilliance leads Baroda to a thrilling win
It was an amazing game of cricket as Baroda edged out
Haryana in the 3rd quarterfinals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021
played at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
Baroda captain Kedar Devdhar won the toss and decided to
field first. It was an ideal start for Baroda as Devdhar produced a brilliant
run out to dismiss Guntashaveer Singh. Chaitanya Bishnoi played with intent
putting pressure on the Baroda bowlers with aggressive stroke play. Bishnoi was
dismissed trying to hit a big shot giving a simple catch to Rajput at mid-on to
leave Haryana in trouble at 25 for 2. Shivam Chauhan and Himanshu Rana steadied
the ship as Haryana scored 33 for 2.
After the field restrictions, Chauhan and Rana kept the scoreboard
ticking with good running between the wickets and hitting innovative strokes.
It was an amazing batting display by both batsmen who looked in complete
control. Sheth got rid of dangerous Shivam Chauhan with an easy catch to Solanki.
Chauhan and Rana added 80 runs for the 3rd wicket. Baroda bowlers kept
on picking wickets at regular intervals as Rahul Tewaita was brilliantly run
out by Rathva. Sumit Kumar played a blinder of an innings remaining not out on
20 off 10 balls to help Haryana post 148 for 7 in 20 overs.
In reply to 149 runs to win, Smit Patel and Baroda captain
Kedar Devdhar started off brightly with attacking stroke play. Chahal got the
breakthrough for Haryana dismissing Smit Patel to end 33 runs opening partnership.
At the end of the first six overs, Baroda made 33 for 1.
After the field restrictions, Kedar Devdhar and Vishnu Solanki
steadied the Baroda innings taking singles and hitting boundaries to put pressure
on Haryana bowlers. Chahal was simply sensational putting pressure on both
batsmen. Sumit Kumar got the important breakthrough getting rid of Devdhar.
Devdhar and Solanki added 68 runs for the 2nd wicket.
Solanki remained calm and reached his fifty off 36 balls. On
the other hand, Rajput struggled to time the ball. Mohit Sharma bowled a superb
19th over giving away just 5 runs. With 19 runs needed from the last
over, Sumit Kumar remained calm giving away 3 runs from the first 3 balls. The equation
then came down to the last ball as Solanki smashed a six to help Baroda register a
thrilling last-ball win.
