Australia versus New Zealand 1st T20I: Conway and Ish Sodhi leads New Zealand to a commanding win
Thanks to superb performances by Conway and Ish Sodhi, New
Zealand registered an emphatic win in the first T20I played at Hagley Oval, Christchurch
on Monday.
Australian captain Aaron Finch won the toss and decided to
field first. It was a perfect start for the visitors as Daniel Sams dismissed
Martin Guptill off the third ball providing a simple catch to Ashton Agar at
backward point. Punjab King's newly appointed Jhye Richardson produced a beauty
getting rid of Tim Seifert.
New Zealand captain Kane Williamson hit some cracking shots
before a bottom edge went into the hands of Wade to leave the hosts in trouble
at 19 for 3. At the end of the first six overs, Kiwis ended at 34 for 3.
Conway and Phillips steadied the ship for Kiwis hitting
boundaries putting pressure back on the Australian bowlers. Conway made batting
look easy and completed his fifty off 36 balls. Phillips played with intent
rescuing the innings for hosts. Coming into the attack, Marcus Stoinis
dismissed Glenn Phillips as Mitchell Marsh took a catch at covers. Conway and
Philips added 74 runs for the 4th wicket.

struck dismissing dangerous Neesham. Neesham and Conway added 47 runs for the 5th
wicket.

Chasing 185 runs to win, it was not an ideal start for
Australia as Australian captain Aaron Finch was dismissed in the first over by
Tim Southee. Trent Boult got rid of debutant Joshua Philippe putting the
visitors under immense pressure at 8 for 2.
New Zealand left Australia in tatters as Boult dismissed
Wade while Southee struck to get rid of Maxwell. Mitchell Marsh played some

Australia’s chances of winning. Marsh and Agar added 42 runs for the 6th
wicket. It was one-way traffic as Ish Sodhi and other Kiwis bowlers kept on
picking wickets at regular intervals. New Zealand bowled out Australia for 131 registering
a commanding 53 runs win.
