India versus England 2nd Test 4th Day: India registers an emphatic win to level the series
The Indian Cricket Team ripped through England’s batting
order to register an emphatic win on the fourth day of the 2nd Test
match played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Tuesday. With this win, India
move to 2nd in the ICC Test Championship points table.
Starting on the overnight score of 53 for 3, Dan Lawrence
and Joe Root started off decently against Ishant and Axar Patel. Both played
with decent technique despite the ball beating the bat. After the initial spell, R
Ashwin struck immediately on his first ball dismissing Lawrence with a
brilliant stumping by Pant.
Ben Stokes came to the crease and looked decent enough with
solid defensive technique. Joe Root looked comfortable. Ashwin got Stokes for
the 10th in his Test career with an inside edge with Virat Kohli
taking a good diving catch. Ollie Pope showed some intent against hitting good
strokes. Axar Patel was bought into the attack and dismissed Pope trying to
sweep providing an easy catch to Ishant Sharma at deep midwicket.
Kuldeep Yadav was bought into the attack by Kohli. Mohammed
Siraj dropped a simple chance at backward point to get rid of Joe Root. At the
stroke of lunch break, Yadav struck to dismiss Foakes. England went into the
lunch break at 116 for 7.
Soon after the lunch break, Axar Patel produced a beauty to
dismiss England captain Joe Root. Patel was superb with his line and length not
allowing the visitor's score runs easily. Moeen Ali enjoyed 3 successive
sixes of Patel’s over. Patel dismissed Olly Stone to pick his 5th
wicket in the debut Test match. Moeen Ali took on the Indian bowlers hitting them
for big shots. Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Moeen Ali stumped by Pant to help India
register an emphatic 317 runs win.
India 329 in 95.5 overs (Rohit
Sharma 161, Rahane 67, Pant 58*, Olly Stone 3/47, Leach 2/78, Moeen Ali 4/128)
