This Day That Year: New Zealanders shine in different format

It was a great day for two New Zealand players who showed their abilities one with the bat and one with the ball. They displayed their skills and decimated the opposition making sure that they created a major impact on the match.

Brendon McCullum smashed the fastest century in Test matches

Playing his last international match for New Zealand, Brendon McCullum broke the record of the fastest Test century. He achieved this feat during the opening day of the 2nd Test match played at Christchurch on 20th February 2015.

Australian captain Steve Smith won the toss and decided to field first. Brendon McCullum came at the crease with New Zealand struggling at 32 for 3. He led from the front and blasted away the Australian bowlers creating pressure with great hitting. McCullum reached his fifty off 34 balls while wickets were falling on the other end.

McCullum upped the ante and kept piling the pressure with his hitting. After being reduced to 74 for 4, Kiwis captain McCullum and Corey Anderson showed their class. McCullum achieved the milestone reaching his century off 54 balls breaking Misbah UL Haq’s record. It was a superb batting effort by McCullum who continued to bat with authority before being dismissed for 145 off 79 balls with 21 fours and 6 sixes with a strike rate of 183.54. Tim Southee created record in World Cup

Tim Southee was at his prime best as he registered the best figures by a Kiwi in World Cups. He achieved this remarkable feat against England played at Westpac Stadium, Wellington on 20th February 2015.

England captain Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first. Southee got the breakthrough for New Zealand dismissing Ian Bell with a beauty. After a decent start by Moeen Ali, Southee struck again to get rid of him to rattle the visitors. At one stage, England looked for a respectable total, McCullum bought in Southee into the attack.

Southee did not disappoint the captain as he dismissed James Taylor, Jos Buttler, Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad, Steve Finn to skittle out England for a paltry total of 123. He ended with amazing figures of 7 for 33 in 9 overs. New Zealand won this match with ease by 8 wickets and piled on more misery on England's side.
