All England Badminton Championship: PV Sindhu loses in the semi-finals.
The Indian challenge ended as PV Sindhu crashed out in the
semi-finals losing to Pornpawee Chocuwong of Thailand at All England Badminton
Championship 2021 played at Birmingham, England on Saturday.
It was a good start by Sindhu who hit well attacking smashes
and put the Thai player under pressure taking an early 3-1 lead. Chochuwong made
aggressive moves and kept Indian check playing smashes. At the mid-game
interval, the Thai player had an 11-6 lead. After the break, Chochuwong maintained
the lead and kept Sindhu under pressure with commanding a 14-7 lead. The Indian
surged back into the game with good attacking play reducing the gap to 16-17. Sindhu
committed lots of errors as the Thai player won the first game easily at 21-17.
In the second game, Chocwong dominated Sindhu right from the
word go and never allowed the Indian a chance in the game. Thai player hit
lovely smashes that Indian had no answer. At the mid-game interval, Chochuwong led
11-3. After the break, the Thai player maintained her domination over Sindhu and
won the second game easily at 21-9 to move into her maiden All England
Badminton Championship finals.
Sindhu had no answers to the Thai player strong defense and
attacking play. The Indian could not manage more than 2 points in succession putting
her under pressure. On the other hand, Chochuwong maintained her domination
over the Indian. The Indian might have got rid of with a thrilling match against
Yamaguchi went down the wire.
Sindhu had a good run in the All-England Badminton Championship
tournament winning first 2 round matches easily before defeating Yamaguchi in a
thrilling quarter-finals encounter. This was Sindhu’s best chance to win a gold
medal but due to great performances by the Thai player, her dream of winning
the prestigious tournament remains.
This will serve as good preparation for Sindhu as she will
take part in the Tokyo Olympics to start from July.
