Indian ODI squad for the series against England announced

The Indian selectors have announced its 18-member squad for the 3 match ODI series starting from 23rd March 2021. These matches are a part of the ICC ODI Super League tournament.

Virat Kohli will lead the side while Rohit Sharma has been named as the vice-captain. Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul are the openers included.

Surya Kumar Yadav who impressed in his first T20I innings has been given a chance to represent the country in 50 overs format along with Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant. Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya would enter as the all-rounder's slot.

Krunal Pandya has been given a chance due to great performances in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. He played some brilliant knocks and also picked wickets to earn him a slot in the ODI squad. 

Pant who had a remarkable run of late will be the wicketkeeper. In the fast-bowling department, T Natarajan would be looking to show his class after an impressive debut in the 3rd ODI against Australia at Canberra. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also makes a return to the team after an injury.

Karnataka pacer Prasidh Krishna who impressed in the Vijay Hazare Trophy season has been included along with Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur. The spin bowling options comprise Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Washington Sundar.

It promises to be a cracking series against top-quality England ODI side. The Indian team lost their first ODI series under the Super League against Australia in November-December. After being plundered in the first 2 matches, the Indian team fought back strongly to win the last ODI.

The team looks solid with explosive batting including Rohit Sharma, Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Pant, Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav. In the bowling department, the Indian team would rely on the experienced bowlers of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and other bowlers to support him.

Both India and England would be looking to showcase their talent on good batting pitches. The first ODI will start on 23rd March, followed by 26th and the final ODI to be played on 28th March.

Now, England are currently well placed in the Super League points table while India grabbed 9 points so far.

  The defending Champions India registered a commanding win in the 2 nd semi-finals against South Korea of the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 played in Hulunbir, Inner Mongolia on 16 th September. Indian team began the first quarter on a good note with Abhishek's reverse flick shot saved by Korean goalkeeper Kim Jahean.   The defending Champions England qualified for the semi-finals with a thrashing of the USA in a must-win game played at Kensington Oval, Barbados on 23 rd June 2024. England captain Jos Buttler won the toss and decided to field first. Reece Topley struck in the first over dismissing Andries Gous with a simple catch to Salt. Nitish Kumar and Steve Taylor steadied the ship for the USA. Sam Curran dismissed Steve Taylor caught by Moeen Ali. Taylor and Nitish Kumar added 34 runs for the 2 nd wicket.
