IPL 2021: England explosive opener to feature for SRH.
In a major signing, Sunrisers Hyderabad has signed England
explosive opener Jason Roy for IPL 2021. After Mitchell Marsh decided to opt-out for fatigue in Bio-secure bubble season, the franchise decided to sign the
explosive opener.
Under the captaincy of David Warner, Sunrisers Hyderabad
reached qualifier 2 last year losing to Delhi Capitals in a closely fought
encounter. With Jason Roy coming into the squad, it will strengthen their
batting line-up. Australian explosive opener David Warner, Bairstow, Saha are
the other three openers.
Sunrisers Hyderabad has been a consistent team in IPL so
far. Under the captaincy of Warner, SRH won their maiden title in 2016 beating
Royal Challengers Bangalore. They made their IPL debut in 2013, they failed to
qualify for the playoffs only twice. Since 2016, SRH made it into the playoffs
stage every time.
It is a major for Sunrisers Hyderabad squad that will make
the squad strong. Jason Roy made his IPL debut for Gujarat Lions in 2017. He
then featured for the Delhi Capitals squad in 2018. So far, Roy played a total of 8
matches in IPL history with one half-century to his name. His best score was
91* against Mumbai Indians.
Roy would be looking to improve his record in the IPL.
Before this signing up, he featured in the limited-overs series against India
including 5 T20Is and 3 ODI matches. He was in decent form but could not
convert starts into big scores.
The explosive England opener has changed the style of
batting in the limited-overs series. He has played so far 43 T20Is for England and
scored 1034 runs with a career-best score of 78. His ability to put the spinners
under pressure coming down the track makes him a dangerous batsman. With the likes
of Warner and Bairstow, Roy could be a big asset if given a chance in the playing XI.
