Orleans Masters 2021: Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth progress into the next round
The top Indian shuttlers including Saina Nehwal and Kidambi
Srikanth moved into the next round of the Super 100 Orleans Masters played in Paris
on Tuesday.
After receiving a bye in the first round, Kidambi Srikanth
defeated his Indian counterpart Ajay Jayaram in two straight games. Srikanth
faltered in the first round of the prestigious All England Badminton
Championship tournament that was played last week. It was a dominating
performance by the experienced Srikanth who outplayed Jayaram winning by 21-15,
21-10 to move into the third round. He will take on Cheam J W of
Malaysia.
The experienced Parupalli Kashyap's poor performance continued
as he lost to T Popov of France in two straight games. Kashyap lost badly in
the first game at 7-21 before providing a fight losing it 17-21. Kashyap received
a bye in the 1st round.
K George stunned the experienced HS Prannoy in three sets.
Prannoy played with aggression in the first game and put pressure on the youngster
winning it 21-13. In the second game, George came back strongly with great
aggression to win it 21-16. The third game went right down the wire as both
players took alternate points before George won it 23-21 to move into the
third round. He will take on B Leverdez of France.
C Sen defeated CA Dwi Wardoyo of Indonesia in two straight
games by 21-13, 21-12 to move into the third round.
In the women’s singles, Saina Nehwal had no problems defeating R Darragh of Ireland in two straight games. The Indian who retired
hurt during the first-round match at the All England Badminton Championship outplayed
her opponent by 21-9, 21-5 to move into the second round. She will take on M
Batoeme of France.
The mixed doubles pair of Pranav Chopra and Sikki Reddy
defeated D Stiptis and S Au Yeong of Austria in two straight games at 21-7,
21-18 to move into the second round. They will take on N Nohr and A Magelund of
Denmark.
