IPL 2021 Match 10: Royal Challengers Bangalore thrash Kolkata Knight Riders to register third win
Royal Challengers Bangalore produced a dominating
performance to beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the 10th match of IPL
2021 played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.
Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli won the toss
and decided to bat first. It was not an ideal start as Virat Kohli and Rajat
Patidar went in quick succession. A superb running catch by Rahul Tripathi
ended the innings for RCB captain Kohli while Rajat Patidar was clean bowled.
Varun Chakravarthy dismissed both Kohli and Patidar.
Glenn Maxwell came to the crease and looked in decent form
putting pressure on KKR bowlers. On the other hand, Paddikal struggled for
timing against Harbhajan Singh and Varun. Maxwell took Shakib AL Hasan on with
some aggressive strokes. At the end of the first six overs, RCB scored 45 for
2.
Maxwell and Paddikal rescued the innings to end the first
timeout at 53 for 2. After the timeout, Maxwell continued his aggressive intent
keeping the scoreboard ticking with boundaries and taking singles. On the other
hand, Paddikal also played some lovely strokes making life tough for KKR
bowlers. Maxwell reached his half-century off 28 balls. Prasidh Krishna got the
much-needed breakthrough dismissing Paddikal as Tripathi took a simple chance.
Paddikal and Maxwell added 86 runs for the 3rd wicket. At the end of
the second timeout, RCB scored 106 for 3.
AB de Villiers joined in with Maxwell and took the attack to
KKR bowlers. Both batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking hitting boundaries at
will. Pat Cummins produced a big wicket to dismiss Maxwell ending 53 runs
partnership for the 4th wicket. de Villers plundered Andre Russell
in his first over and completed fifty off just 27 balls. Kyle Jamieson provided
some impetus to the innings with big shots against Harbhajan Singh. AB de
Villiers smashed Andre Russell for 21 runs in 20th over to help RCB
post a massive total of 204 for 4. De Villiers and Jamieson added unbeaten 56
runs for the 5th wicket.
Chasing a mammoth total of 205 runs to win, Shubman Gill was
in sublime touch hitting 2 fours and 1 six off Jamieson’s bowling before
providing a good catch to Christian at mid-on. Gill made a quickfire 21 off 9
balls. Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana showed their intent putting the pressure
back on the RCB bowlers. Washington Sundar dismissed the dangerous Rahul
Tripathi tried to hit a big shot but provided a good catch to Siraj. At the
end of the first six overs, KKR scored 57 for 2 and with that, the first timeout
was called. Rana and Tripathi added 34 runs for the 2nd wicket.
After the timeout, RCB bowlers troubled KKR batsmen with
tight lines and lengths. Chahal got his first wicket of IPL 2021 dismissing the
dangerous Nitish Rana. Soon after, Chahal dismissed Dinesh Karthik with a
straight delivery leaving KKR in massive trouble. Eoin Morgan looked in decent
touch hitting some cracking boundaries to keep their hopes alive. AB de
Villiers missed a stumping chance to get rid of Shakib AL Hasan. Harshal Patel
made an important breakthrough to dismiss Eoin Morgan further denting KKR
hopes. Morgan and Shakib AL Hasan added 40 runs for the 5th wicket.
Royal Challengers Bangalore bowlers looked in complete
control making life tough for KKR batsmen. At the end of the second timeout,
KKR made 121 for 5.
Andre Russell took the attack to Yuzvendra Chahal and gave
some hope to KKR. On the other hand, Shakib AL Hasan struggled with his timing.
Kyle Jamieson produced a superb yorker to get rid of Shakib to dent KKR hopes.
Shakib and Andre Russell added 41 runs for the 6th wicket. Mohammed
Siraj bowled a stunning 19th over giving away just 1 run. Harshal
Patel dismissed Andre Russell in the last over as RCB register 38 runs win.
RCB 204 for 4 in 20 overs (Maxwell 78, AB de Villiers 76*,
Varun Chakravarthy 2/39) beat Kolkata Knight Riders 166 for 8 in 20 overs (Andre
Russell 31, Morgan 29, Kyle Jamieson 3/41, Harshal Patel 2/17) by 38 runs.
With this win, Royal Challengers Bangalore register their 3rd
successive win of the tournament. For his 76 off 34 balls, AB de Villiers was
awarded the man of the match. RCB consolidated their position with 6 points.
